Cong to rope in Mahesh Babu for poll campaign

In a bid to counter the effect of mega star Chiranjeevi’s electioneering for his party Praja Rajyam and that of Balakrishna , junior NTR and others for TDP, the ruling Congress is planning to rope in popular hero Mahesh Babu to campaign for it.

It is learnt that Mahesh Babu is not interested to join active politics immediately. Even his father super star Krishna is not ready to bring him into politics at this stage. They feel that entry into politics will have an impact on his film career.

According to party sources, Mahesh Babu will campaign for the ruling party only during the time of elections. Krishna has already declared his support to the Congress.

He also called upon his fans and Mahesh Babu’s fans to strive for victory of Congress in the State.

Another yesteryear heroine Kavitha is also planning to join the Congress shortly.

She hails from Narsapuram of West Godavari district. Actress Jayasudha will join the party at Gandhi Bhavan here tomorrow in the presence of PCC president D Srinivas and Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy

Woman dies of joy after hug from Chiru

A 60-year-old woman, overjoyed when matinee idol and Praja Rajyam party chief Chiranjeevi hugged her during his maiden tour of Visakhapatnam district, suffered a heart attack and died later in a hospital on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the Tagarapuvalasa Junction where the megastar kickstarted his road show programme in the morning.

In an another tragic incident, a 35-year-old man was run over by a vehicle in Chiranjeevi’s convoy near the Pendurty Junction.

To welcome their favourite actor, several people turned up in the guise of Ambedkar, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Mother Teresa. The aforesaid woman, K Hemalatha, who dressed like Mother Teresa, caught the attention of Chirjanjeevi who walked up to them and hugged the `Mother’. He took their blessings and thanked them.

No sooner did Chiranjeevi leave the place than the elderly woman, who was thrilled to her heart and could not contain the ecstasy, had a rush of blood, suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed, and had to be rushed to a hospital on the spot. Unaware of the tragedy it left behind, the juggernaut rolled on to Anandapuram.

In the other incident, O Tirumala Rao of Vepagunta, who was riding parallel to the convoy on his motorcycle holding the party flag, swerved a little for a moment and went too close to the convoy. Result: His motorcycle got entangled between the front and rear tyres of a four-wheeler in the convoy and the enthusiastic fan died on the spot.

Curiously, the news of the twin deaths had not reached Chiranjeevi and his road show continued till the evening

I will root out corruption: Chiranjeevi

Focusing on corruption in politics and issues concerning youth and weaker sections, actor-politician Chiranjeevi on Tuesday said his Praja Rajyam party, if voted to power, will stamp out corruption and provide a clean and transparent government.

The actor’s road show entered the north coastal district of Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, drawing huge crowds all along the route. Addressing several meetings, he sought to strike an emotional chord with the people by referring to the local issues and problems of youth, women and weaker sections.

Social justice, change and corruption-free governance were the main focus of his speeches.

“Politics has become a license to make money at the cost of the common people. Political corruption has become the bane of society. Give me a chance and I will root out corruption,” he told the gatherings.

Expressing solidarity with fishermen, who form a big chunk of voters in the district, Chiranjeevi said the proposed “coastal corridor industrial project” in the region would displace a large number of fishermen.

Chiranjeevi addressed several meetings in Thagarapuvalasa, Anandapuram, Chodavaram, Pendurthi and Sappavaram in the district.

Invoking the message of his superhit film ‘Tagore’, in which he played the role of a crusader against corruption, the superstar said, “Each one of you should become a Tagore and raise your voice against corruption

Fans apologise to party observers

In a filmi turnabout, megastar Chiranjeevi’s fans, who went on the rampage at the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) office here yesterday, buckled under pressure and apologised to the party observers on Tuesday.

The fans who had hurled slippers at the observers protesting against being ‘‘sidelined’’, were meekness personified today, garlanding the observers and obediently listening to the speakers.

PRP district coordination committee in-charge Siddarath Goud said the party would take up a door-to-door membership drive for a month in the district.

Party workers and Chiranjeevi fans will also take up large-scale tree plantation.

He called upon fans, women and party workers to strengthen the party from the grassroots up.

Goud announced two committees comprising women and Chiranjeevi fans.

The ‘‘fans committee’’ includes Chiru Fans Association members Karate Prabhakar, Thota Navin, Srinivas Reddy and Raju, while the Mahila Varidhi panel includes Jayanti, G Sailaja, Sridevi and Rama Devi.

Party observers said a committee comprising two political leaders would be constituted for each Assembly constituency and would be operational till the completion of the membership drive.

Party observers Deshpande, Chittibabu and Rajgopal, and local leaders Manda Ilaiah, Varadha Reddy and Pravin Kumar were among those present

YSR cautions coastal districts’ Kapu leaders

Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy seems to have got irked at the turn out of the youth for the Praja Ankita Yatra of the Megastar. He had reportedly asked the Kapu leaders from Krishna and Guntur districts to ensure that the turnout for the next round of Yatra would be less than what it is being projected in the media now. The sources said that Dr Reddy had telephonic conversation with Ministers Kanna Lakshminarayana of Guntur, Mandali Buddha Prasad, Samineni Udaya Bhanu and Buragadda Vedavyas of Krishna district to get into action and make inroads into the Kapu bastion. He had also instructed these leaders to take care of the community in East and West Godavari districts, as the Kapu strong man from Rajahmundry, Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao is presently sick. Praja Rajyam is pinning all its hopes on East and West Godavari districts, where it can muster greater support from the community. Kanna Lakshminarayana and Udaya Bhanu, who have direct contacts with some of the Kapu leaders from the two Godavari districts, are now on the job of holding talks with the community. It is said that these leaders would soon be making a secret visit to the two districts and hold consultations with the heads, including the supporters of Mudragada Padmanabham, the strong man of the Godavari belt. If this works out positively for the Congress, the second leg of Praja Ankita Yatra, would spell doom for the Megastar in his home turf, besides Krishna and Guntur districts.

Chiranjeevi for free 24-hour power

Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi has started his maiden tour with a bang by promising to give round-the-clock free power to farmers if he was voted to power. The actor-turned-politician launched his Praja Ankita Yatra on Vijayadasami at Arasavelli in Srikakulam district. Though he has often said that he would shun ‘negative politics,’ Chiranjeevi is sharply criticising the Congress government for its “neglect” of the common man and is also lashing out at the principal Opposition, Telugu Desam, during his tour. Huge crowds have been lining up the roads of Srikakulam district to have a glimpse of the actor. In every meeting he is repeatedly saying that “the people’s wishes are Praja Rajyam’s agenda.” Political observers, however, said that Chiranjeevi was still behaving more like a film star than a politician and that his speeches lacked substance and concrete proposals to alleviate the hardships of the poor. Also, even after launching the yatra, Chiranjeevi is continuing with his dilly-dallying on major issues such as state bifurcation, categorisation of SCs, economic reforms, and World Bank policies. Whenever he meets with scribes in the midst of the tour and they pose queries on these key issues, his standard reply is: “We are examining it and we will soon spell out our stand.” This dithering was evident even when journalists asked him about the ongoing atrocities against Christians in Orissa. “We will examine the issue for two to three days and take a stance,” he said. While addressing a series of meetings in Srikakulam, Chiranjeevi said that eradication of corruption would on top of his party’s agenda. Reacting sharply to allegations about his lack of experience in politics, the mega star said one need not know politics to serve the people. “A person who can solve problems of people would be aware of politics,” he said. “I joined politics with a single-point agenda — to serve people.” Meanwhile, Mr Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who joined Praja Rajyam on Thursday, said that Chiranjeevi will announce the party stand on key issues such as mining in the agency areas, special economic zones and coastal corridor when he addresses a public meeting in Makavarapalem on October 17

Chiranjeevi Graduates Society seeks support of the educated

VIJAYAWADA: Speakers at an awareness meeting organised by the Chiranjeevi Graduates Society (CGS) here on Sunday made a fervent plea to the educated classes to extend their full support to actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi and make his Praja Rajyam Party a success. Noted physician and social activist G. Samaram, who is now associated with the PRP, said he would be extending his full support to Chirajeevi as a leader, which was more in return for the support the actor had given him in organising various social service activities. “For the last 15 years, there has been good support from Mr. Chiranjeevi in my social service activities. It is my desire to support him and see a bright future for him,” he said. PRP city leader Bonda Srinivasa Rao asserted that there were clear indications that Chiranjeevi would become the next Chief Minister after the Assembly elections. He referred to the huge response from the public to Chiranjeevi’s Praja Ankita Yatra in north coastal Andhra Pradesh as a clear indication of the people’s approval of Chiranjeevi’s leadership. Chiranjeevi Graduates Society State president Allu Govinda Rao and Krishna district president Katari Eeswara Rao briefed the gathering about the objectives of their society. The society would continue to conduct support mobilisation meetings all over the State and the district so as to underline the importance of educated people actively supporting Chiranjeevi’s leadership. Former Mayor Tadi Sakuntala called upon women to participate in the PRP activities in large numbers and extend their whole-hearted support to Chiranjeevi. She said that the actor had entered politics with a clear objective of bringing about a change in the State and the benefits of this would certainly go to the downtrodden and all sections of society. Mr. Eeswara Rao said their society would bring out a fortnightly called ‘Yuva Sena’ with a view to featuring information relating to the participation of graduates in social service and other activities in support of Chiranjeevi’s leadership.

Chiru fans bash up Pavan’s aide

Troubles have begun for Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi – not from any of his rivals, but from his own cine fans. As has been feared, Chiru’s fans have started demanding their share in party and positions; and they are not able to digest importance being given to leaders migrating into PRP from other parties in large numbers. As a result, they are showing their ire on even on the leaders deputed by Chiru. This unfortunate situation has come to the fore at Warangal on Monday. Representatives of Chiranjeevi fans associations roughed up Siddharth, a close associate of Pawan Kalyan, who went there as an observer to oversee the formation of committees and take up membership drive. They ransacked the furniture there and raised slogans against indiscrimination meted out to Chiru’s fans. It took a long time for the organizers to bring the order at the meeting. Now, one can imagine the situation all over the State in the coming days. After all fans are fans; they cannot be organized political activists!

Chiranjeevi One Man Show in Party

Despite the fact that he has been reigning king of the Telugu film industry, megastar who is currently on his prarja ankita yatra seems to have sent a message that he is one man who has the power to take things forward and lead his party to an overwhelming response from the public.

Apparently, there is no Pawan Kalyan, no Nagababu, no Allu Aravind, no Allu Arjun, no Ramcharan, no Navdeep, no Raviteja, no Srikanth in front end and this has come as a surprise to many opposition members since they were looking at reeling out some of the big names in the glamour circuit to counter chiru
