Wisdom has at last dawned upon Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi. He now wants do what he should have done nine months ago.

People have already given their verdict and therefore, there would no criticism of the ruling party or the leaders. This tour is entirely meant to take the party into the people. Chiranjeevi would identify himself with the people, their problems and their feelings. In a way, it is going to be a mass contact programme,” PRP leaders said.

Well, it is good that Chiranjeevi has learnt a lesson. Be with the people; they will be with you when you need them.

Chandra Babu blames Chiranjeevi for TDP

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu Wednesday blamed superstar Chiranjeevi’s entry into the political arena for his party’s debacle in the simultaneous polls to the Andhra Pradesh assembly and Lok Sabha.

Naidu also refused to accept the verdict as a positive vote for the Congress party saying it retained power by division of votes.

“It was clear from the voting trend in assembly elections that people wanted TDP to come to power,” he said while addressing Mahanadu, or the state-level convocation of his party.

The former chief minister said the entry of Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party and bureaucrat-turn-politician Jayaprakash Narayan’s Lok Satta into the electoral field worked against TDP as these parties split the anti-incumbency vote.

TDP could win 92 seats in the 294-member assembly while it bagged only six of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

This is the first time in TDP’s 26-year history that it is sitting in the opposition for the second consecutive term.

In his inaugural address at the two-day conclave, Naidu reminded that though the Congress had come to power in the state again, its vote percentage was only 36.8.

“This is the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that a party has come to power with such a meagre share of votes,” he said.

The opposition parties together polled 63.2 percent of votes and the difference in percentage of votes between the Congress and the Grand Alliance comprising TDP, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the two Left parties was only 1.8 percent.

“In many constituencies, the TDP candidates lost the polls with a narrow margin, mainly because of the presence of the PRP and the Lok Satta. Had there not been a split in the anti-establishment vote, we would have won comfortably,” he reasoned.

Refusing to see the verdict as a positive vote for the Congress, Naidu argued the ruling party, which bagged 33 Lok Sabha seats, should have won 230 assembly seats, if it were to be a positive vote.

“The Congress has come back to power by default, by polling 1.8 percent more than the opposition alliance,” he asserted.

He declared that the TDP would continue its fight on people’s issues and asked the cadre to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Voicing concern over the suicide attempt by two party workers over the party’s defeat, he asked the cadre not to get disheartened by the result and reminded them that no other party in the country has a strong cadre base like the TDP.

Naidu also clarified that the TDP would stick to its stand in favour of separate statehood to Telangana region.

Dumping its traditional stand against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, TDP had last year backed the demand for statehood to Telangana.

The TDP chief said it would also implement a cash transfer scheme whenever it comes to power in the state. Under the scheme, the party had promised cash doles of Rs.1,000 to Rs.2,000 per month to each poor family.

The announcement of Sabita Indra Reddy as the new Home minister was widely welcomed by everyone. Sabita has scored the distinction of not only becoming the first woman in the state to assume charge as Home Minister but she is also perhaps the first woman in the entire country to hold the distinction.

The Telugu Mahila Chief Roja was very liberal in her praise. She welcomed the appointment of a woman as the Home Minister. Roja also congratulated Sabita and hoped that the atrocities against women in the state will come down during her reign.

The Mahila Rajyam chief Shobha Rani on the other hand ridiculed the appointment of Sabita as the Home Minister. She said that it was a joke!

While Roja’s statement is being widely appreciated, Shobha Rani’s words have not gone down well with the people, even her own party men say that she has put her foot in her mouth with her foolish statement.

PRP Symbol Rail engine Change: Chiranjeevi

chiranjeevi-2

Why did Praja Rajyam Party lose the elections? Well, PRP president Chiranjeevi has the answer.

According to him, most of the voters wanted to vote for the PRP, but they could not locate the rail engine symbol on the Electronic Voting Machine. The symbol was very vague. So, they chose hand, which was clearly visible and identifiable. “This is the major reason. That is the reason why we want to change our election symbol. We are going to file an appeal before the Election Commission seeking the change in symbol,” he said.

Party sources said Chiru has proposed to ask for “umbrella” symbol for the next election, since it can be easily recognised by voters.

Silly excuse, isn’t it. It is nothing but doubting the wisdom of the voters. They clearly look for symbols while voting; and if they really want to vote for the PRP, they don’t find it difficult to locate the rail engine. Even if it is umbrella, people would not vote for the party, unless they want to. It is better Chiru learns this fundamental point.

Pavan Kalyan:Allu Aravind Resigned PRP

pavan-kalyan1

Even as Praja Rajyam Party was conducting a series of meetings to introspect into the reasons for the party’s debacle in the recent elections, one person who was conspicuous by his absence was Pavan Kalyan, president of Yuva Rajyam, the youth wing of the PRP.

Pavan Kalyan’s absence has raised many an eye brow, as he was an important element of the the party’s campaign in the elections. “He has influenced selection of several candidates, some directly and others indirectly. He was the one who played a major role in the party’s campaign strategy. So, he should have been part of the team introspecting into the party’s defeat in the elections. He cannot simply run away like that,” a party leader said.

Pavan is said to have stopped coming to the party office after the election results. Leaders in his coterie are also making occasional appearance. He is now concentrating on his next film venture, sources say.

PRP Chiranjeevi to change Rail Engine Symbol

chiru-office

After the Political affairs committee meet, Chiru spoke to media today evening and explained the reason for the poor performance of his party.

1.The symbol (Rail Engine) was not clearly visible, so we are going for new symbol after consulting election commission.

2.We were little bit delayed while allotting the tickets, we could have announced the list little earlier.

3.As we were more particular about social justice, it was some disadvantage to us,instead of going for Gelupu Gurralu, we…..

4. We were expecting 40% vote share in the state, but Manmohan Singh effect is very much there on the state.

5.Still the party has done well in the elections by procuring more than 70 lakhs votes.
