BAPATLA (GUNTUR Dt.): Praja Rajyam founder Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja on Monday accepted that there were 14 persons from Other Castes among the 104 Backward Classes candidates who were supposed have been given party tickets.
Speaking to media persons at Bapatla railway station, he said that even if 14 were OCs, the PR accounted for giving 90 seats to BCs – the highest among all parties. When asked if the allegations of their party general secretary Parakala Prabhakar, who quit now, that there was some OCs from among the alleged 40 identified by him as OCs out of the 104, his answer was that PR had given more than 90 seats to BCs and did not want to prolong the issue further. He, however, asserted that social justice was brought about by the PR by allocating seats to a particular community who patronage TDP and also made a person in-charge of Guntur district party unit. “They have not given tickets to people from our community at all,” alleged Thota Chandrasekhar during the press conference.
Notwithstanding the spate of resignations from the party and criticism from various quarters, Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi’ s roadshow drew enthusiastic crowds at various places in the city on Monday.
Though vehicles moved freely 15 minutes before he arrived at Jagadamba junction, the roads were full by the time he arrived. People got onto balconies and shop floors to catch a glimpse of the megastar. Youth took up vantage positions on the supporting structure of a huge advertisement hoarding.
A youth was heard saying: “He has tanned a lot, perhaps, due to long hours of standing in the harsh sun”. A woman said: “He was like that from the beginning. It’s all makeup in films”. There were some others who seemed to feel sorry for the star sweating it out in the sun.
The crowd cheered him as he spoke in his characteristic style. They went into a thunderous applause as he began saying: “I will remain indebted to you all my life and I hope you will give me a permanent place in your hearts.” Coming down heavily on his detractors, he said Praja Rajyam had proved its commitment to social justice with the allotment of ticket to over 100 BC candidates.
Other parties, which had failed to give ticket to so many BCs, were making false allegations in a bid to neutralise the growing popularity of the Praja Rajyam. Their only objective was to cling to power at any cost but there would be no stopping the PR as people were looking for a change.
Referring to the power cuts, Chiranjeevi said: “They (Congress) think that it is in their hands to indulge in power cuts. It’s time to cut their power.”
After crossing CMR junction, he went down into the van much to the disappointment of those waiting along the route to catch a glimpse of the star. Scores of people gathered at Seethammadhara junction but he left soon after garlanding a statue of freedom fighter Alluri Seetharama Raju.
At Arilova, women who stood for a long time along the road, were disappointed as Chiranjeevi was inside the van and they couldn’t see him. Many were seen waiting on the road after he left thinking that he would return.
Earlier, addressing a huge gathering at Kancharapalem junction, he said that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was suffering from ‘son stroke’. He ridiculed Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s appreciation of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy and asked: “What development had he done to the State”?
He alleged that Dr. Reddy had gained assets and amassed huge wealth for his family members. Referring to the Mahakutami (Grand Alliance), he said that it was coalition that was formed only for power politics but not for development of the State.
Former Praja Rajyam spokesperson Parkala Prabhakar on Sunday contested the party leaders’ claim that it has rendered “social justice” by fielding 104 BC candidates. He alleged that the status of at least 38 nominees was “bogus”, while addressing a press conference here on Sunday.
He said the party had included former Rajya Sabha member C. Ramachandraiah and Jalagam Srinivas among the list of BC candidates. It was not true that the PR had rendered “justice” to BCs, as none of the 38 candidates could be so categorised. “Social justice was like a prop for the party to enact drama,” he alleged.
Mr. Prabhakar claimed receiving threats after speaking against the party and declared that he would not be cowed down.
Referring to the party’s description as “kalpavruksham” by its leaders, he said it was indeed so for “owners” and not for people.
“For people it is a poisonous tree”.
‘PR misleading people’
He accused the party of “misleading” people by stating tickets were given on the basis of a “survey”.
He wanted to know which survey suggested that PR general secretary Allu Aravind be fielded from Anakapalle, while denying a ticket to three-time MLA Mathangi Narsaiah. He charged the party with putting up “weak candidates” in some constituencies to benefit other parties.
PRP’s train reached Srikakulam today morning. There was heavy turnout of Megafans in the Railway station to see Ramcharan and Allu Arjun.
Ramcharan who came out of the train to wish the fans was pulled down by the fans. Security personnel of the Ramcharan could control the crowd to put Ramcharan in to the train.
The Congress made a plea to Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao here on Sunday to apply the ban imposed against telecast of “election matter” by TV channels to films of Chiranjeevi and other film heroes also belonging to TDP and other parties.
A delegation of the party, led by Ravi Shankar Jandhyala, member of the party’s campaign committee, met the CEO with the plea that the films of Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, and NTR Junior would influence the voters and therefore fit into the definition of the “election matter” cited in the Representation of People Act.
The delegation said Section 126 of the Act also imposed restrictions on screening of films and staging of cultural programmes, if undertaken as source of “entertainment and amusement” to influence voters in any form.
The CEO said that he would forward the representation to the EC for a decision.
VISAKHAPATNAM: They made a guest appearance at the railway station but it turned into a super hit from the word go.
The frenzied fans, braving lathi blows from policemen and flexing of muscles by private security guards, created ear-splitting cacophony to greet them tumultuously. Amid unprecedented security and the deployment of commandos from Railway Police Special Force following fans entering into the train by breaking the security cordon at Khammam on Saturday night, the sons of Chiranjeevi and Allu Aravind waved at the crowds and delivered brief filmy style speeches.
Amid full-throated slogans like ‘twinkle twinkle little star, Chiranjeevi megastar’ and ‘Jai Chiranjeeva,’ the fans mostly in the age group of 15-25 stormed into platform No. 6 at the railway station here on Sunday to greet Chiranjeevi’s son Ramcharan Teja and film producer Allu Aravind’s son Arjun.
Their speeches were drowned in the din that followed. However, the crowd went on creating noise till the 15-coach Praja Rail Yatra train left for Anakapalle, from where Mr. Aravind, the main strategist of PR, is contesting for the first time for the membership of Lok Sabha.
Social justice
The fans kept on addressing ‘Chirutha,’ the first hit movie of Ramcharan when he showed a toy train to appeal to the fans to vote PR to power and make Chiranjeevi the next Chief Minister.
Both later told reporters on-board the train that only the PR was committed to social justice and to bring about a change in society.
On quitting of several leaders and their allegations against the party leadership, the duo said the departure of some apparently due to denial of ticket would not make much impact on the winning prospects of PR.
PR candidate for Visakhapatnam LS seat Palla Srinivasa Rao said none could stop the PR train from reaching its destination and making Chiranjeevi the ‘people’s CM.’

Recently, it was the birthday of stylish star Allu Arjun and unlike his regular style of throwing a grand bash in the hottest pubs of Hyderabad, he chose to have it differently. This time, Arjun was there in Anakapalli taking part in a road show for his father Allu Aravind who has filed his nomination for the coming election.
However, it is said that his experience has been quite tiresome. Sources close to him say that Arjun was sharing with his friends stating that it became difficult for him to talk in road show for 2 minutes and wondered how Jr NTR who is of his same age could do that.
Well, not everyone can be Jr NTR and at the same time not everyone can be Allu Arjun. However, the seniors say that since it was the first time Allu Arjun had that trouble. Once he does few more road shows, he will get into the heat of the things and get going. But he is not doing that.
