chi12351813425
AVANIGADDA:Praja Rajyam Party president, Chiranjeevi, had promised to supply cooking gas at Rs 100 a cylinder, free education for girls, total security for women, recruitment for teacher posts in January every year and provision of railway line for Diviseema.

Speaking at various places as part of his road shows in Krishna district on Tuesday, Chiranjeevi said that his government would provide LPG cylinder at Rs 100 bearing the remaining amount as government subsidy. He also said that his government would fight with the Central government and get 50 per cent share in the gas from the Krishna-Godavari basin.

He said he was pained at the continuing atrocities against women in the State both during the Telugu Desam and the Congress governments. He said he would take up the issue on priority and evolve a special mechanism to prevent such atrocities and provide total security for women. He also said that he would ensure recruitments for the teacher posts done in January every year and thus provide employment for the youth.

Referring to the backwardness of Diviseema area in Krishna district, he came down heavily on the TD and Congress governments for neglecting the region. He said he would take up Diviseema development on priority. He said he would also secure a railway line to cover the most of the areas of Diviseema with the rest of the district.

As he announced special packages for the Diviseema region, the people acknowledged his promises with whistles and claps.

The first two letters in the English language expand as Aravind Babu (read general secretary Allu Aravind) and they are followed by ‘C’, the letter that an imaginative leader read as Chiranjeevi, the party president, who sits in O1 (Office No. 1), on Road No. 46, Jubilee Hills. Now, who has the final say? Elementary, my dear Watson! Campaign on train Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan will board a second class bogie attached to Krishna Express. As and when he is not interacting with contesting candidates onboard, he will address people who come to see him at stations en route. Just like the Mahatma and Franklin D. Roosevelt, the party claims. Calling the shots There seems to be no end to problems at the Vijayawada urban office of the Praja Rajyam. For a while in the past, it was Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) who appeared to have ruled the roost. Now followers of Vangaveeti Radhakrishna and family members of Allu Aravind call the shots. They shout and browbeat the media. They want total control sans responsibility. Major omission If elections are all about hits and misses, here is a miss that could prove costly to the Congress, according to former FAPCC chairman Omprakash Tibrewala. An avid watcher of TV ads, he spotted a “major omission” in the Congress’ much hyped “Jai Ho” ad. It made mention of all former Congress Prime Ministers from Nehru to Manmohan Singh except ‘our own Telugu bidda’ P. V. Narasimha Rao. “It is an insult to the country and Telugus in particular.”

Fate of Subbarayudu hangs in the balance between TDP and PRP

cbn_chiru112362532362
The fate of Kothapalli Subbarayudu, confidant of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and former minister, who has never tasted defeat in his Narsapur segment ever since he began his political career as an MLA with the TDP in 1985, seems precariously hanging in balance now, thanks to ‘Chiru tsunami’. He survived the Congress wave in 2004 and scraped through the election with a thin margin of a little over 2,500 votes. Narsapur was one of the four Assemblies out of the total 16 segments retained by the TDP in that election. He understandably feels displaced since Chiranjeevi, a film star from his constituency who shot into politics by floating Praja Rajyam Party and the reports emanating from within the PRP that he is all set to fight the election from Narsapur. Firebrand Mr. Subbarayudu, who earned a sobriquet as a firebrand with his hard-hitting attacks on rival parties, remains aloof from his party activities for several months, fuelling speculations over his changing political loyalties. Hariramajogaiah, senior leader of the PRP who was considered a mentor of Mr. Subbarayudu in politics, is said to be working overtime to save his disciple from the impending political tsunami by trying to field him from Narsapur from the PRP. In this backdrop, rumour mills started working overtime afresh, suggesting Mr. Subbarayudu’s joining in the PRP at its ‘Praja Bheri’ scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on March 21 in the presence of Mr. Chiranjeevi along with former Union minister and actor-turned BJP leader U.V. Krishnam Raju. The recent statement by Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law and PRP key leader Allu Aravind that the party was planning to field its president from neighbouring Palakole instead of his hometown of Narsapur could be viewed as part of the reported pressure tactics applied by Mr. Jogaiah in an obvious bid to help his ‘sishya’ contest from Narsapur on the PRP ticket. However, sections opposing Mr. Jogaiah in the PRP insist on Mr. Chiranjeevi seeking election from his hometown alone.

Chiranjeevi’s roadshow evokes good response in Krishna Dist

16sld7
A thunderous reception was accorded to Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi on the first day of his three-day visit to conduct his roadshow in Krishna district. His roadshow evoked huge response from a large number of people, especially of Kapu community, which is predominant in Nagayalanka, Avanigadda, Machilipatnam and surrounding areas. The good show apparently unnerved other parties, particularly the ruling Congress in the Assembly segments falling in the delta region. The road show in Avanigadda constituency could, going by the indications, deal a blow to the winning chances of sitting MLA and Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad. The huge crowd that turned up for the roadshow largely consisted of Kapu community leaders and cadres, who were mostly with the Congress through the thick and thin till last elections. Some of those who were present at the roadshow in Avanigadda centre expressed their resolve to vote for the PRP this time. They sought to know whether the Minister had done anything for them in the past five years and said they were happy to find a choice in the form of the PRP. A senior citizen was elated to see the response to the roadshow, and he felt that such crowds were usually seen when Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy addressed meetings here. The situation will be no different in regard to the future of Machilipatnam MLA Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) of the Congress, said PRP leaders. They pointed out that Kapu leaders in the Congress would face a very embarrassing situation, as their community members would solidly vote for the PRP provoking a reaction from other communities supporting the Congress. Interestingly, TDP senior leader Ambati Brahmanaiah, who also belongs to Kapu community, could face a similar problem but on a lower scale in Avanigadda. Whatever little support he could gather previously from his Kapu community would not come this time in view of the presence of PRP in the fray. The PRP is said to be considering fielding Bade Babu Rao, a relative of Allu Aravind, from Avanigadda Assembly constituency. Until now, the name of Simhadri Chandrasekhar, a doctor by profession and son of former minister Simhadri Satyanarayana, figured at the top among the list of probables for this constituency. Party cadres said they would only look at Chiranjeevi’s face for voting, irrespective of the candidate.

Chiranjeevi’s party withdraws symbol petition

chiranjeevi-praja-ankita-sabha-day1-132
In a surprise development, the Praja Rajyam led by actor Chiranjeevi withdrew a case it had filed in the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking a common symbol for its candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Vedula Venkata Ramana, counsel for the petitioner, informed a Bench, comprising Justice B. Prakasha Rao and Justice Bhavani Prasad, on Tuesday that his client had asked not to press the writ petition.

The Praja Rajyam had challenged the constitutional validity of the rules stipulating that only those political parties, which had contested a general election and got six per cent of the votes polled and, in addition, won at least two Assembly seats, would be eligible for allotment of an exclusive common symbol in the next elections.

The Election Commission had rejected the PRP’s application seeking allotment of a common symbol for its candidates.

Following this, the party approached the High Court which sent the matter back to the EC asking to reconsider the issue.

As the Commission rejected the plea, the party filed the present writ petition.

Any party can get itself registered and its candidates be allotted a symbol from among the free symbols available.

PRP Chief Chiranjeevi says Let’s unite for the change

prajarajyam1237340541
The Praja Rajyam took birth from the urge for change in society. It makes me proud that people want me to be their servant in their quest for a better tomorrow. Andhra Pradesh is a rich state, but people are made poor. With our vast resources we should be in a land of prosperity. But, for the last six decades, only a thin layer of our society has prospered. Lack of political will and unbridled corruption made universal prosperity a very distant dream. Politics has degenerated. Rather than being a calling to serve our people, politics has become a vocation to plunder and loot the public. Democratic governments ought to be the trustees — dharmadhikaris — of the people, shepherding them on to the path of progress. Instead, our governments are destroying our present and squelching the hopes of our children. Corruption engulfs us in every manner. Even those whose daily survival is a struggle are not spared from its rapacious claws. This has to stop. At the top, the leaders have come to believe that it is their right to embezzle and extort; and that it is also right and proper for their kith, kin and crooked friends in the business communities to defraud us. The Congress and the Telugu Desam vied with each other in looting the public money. While the Telugu Desam government headed by Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu encouraged corruption in an organised manner, the government headed by Mr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy opened the floodgates for corruption. In the run-up to the polls, Mr Reddy and Mr Naidu are once again vying with each other to hoodwink people with false promises. For over 60 years we have been ruled by a few families belonging to a few communities; and they have, over and over, betrayed our trust. They can be stopped if the hitherto excluded segments come together — the SC, the ST, the OBC, the poor, the minorities, the disabled and women — to take power back to where it belongs: with the people. We need to infuse our politics with the moral urgency to serve our people. We cannot continue to remain as silent spectators. We can join hands and bring about the change that is needed. The Praja Rajyam is committed to this in true spirit.

Chiranjeevi blames rivals for hurdles in getting common symbol

abcd
Praja Rajyam Party president K. Chiranjeevi on Tuesday said their party was facing difficulties because of lack of a common election symbol so far, as this was expected to create confusion among the voters.

He, however, hoped to tide over the crisis with “divine blessings,” even as he blamed the rival parties for creating hurdles in the way of getting a common symbol.

‘Best alternative’

Kicking off his Praja Ankita Yatra, the roadshow, in Krishna district here, Mr. Chiranjeevi said that the PRP was the best alternative for the people at a time when they wanted to throw out the “corrupt” Congress and also reject the “not-so-clean” Telugu Desam Party.

He conducted roadshow at Avanigadda, Mopidevi, Challapalli and a few other places in the delta region.

Mr. Chiranjeevi cautioned the voters against getting “trapped by the election gimmicks and populist slogans” of the rival parties.

He said while the TDP opened windows for corruption during its regime, the present Congress Government unlocked all main doors for a flood of corruption. He appealed to the people to ponder over the need for clean governance for which the PRP would remain committed.

Dismissing election surveys as of no big relevance, Mr. Chiranjeevi said no surveys could really sense the depth of the hearts of voters in the context of their finding a strong choice like the PRP. “You have adored me for 30 years. I know we have a heart-to-heart warm relationship. This is creating a silent revolution, which no survey can discover,” he asserted.

Promise to youth

Mr. Chiranjeevi turned to a group of young fans and promised to address their demand for creation of jobs through DSC. He assured them of filling posts by conducting DSC recruitments in January next year, if voted to power, and every year thereafter.

Dedicating the PRP to the cause of uplifting women, Mr. Chiranjeevi said the party had already announced many schemes for the security and educational needs of girls. Cooking gas would be provided to households at Rs. 100 a refill, which would be in addition to the Rs. 100 grocery scheme already announced by the party.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said their party, once elected to power, would create all necessary infrastructure for the laying of a railway line between Machilipatnam and Repalle to provide better transport facilities for people living in this area. He said efforts would be made to persuade the Union Government to help in this.

Former Naxals after PRP for poll tickets

chirumeet-in-chilakaluripet2
Many former Naxals, including those accused of murder and extortion, are now trying to get Assembly tickets from Praja Rajyam, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and other parties. Aspirants include former Maoists and activists of Naxal groups such as Prajaprathighatana and Prajapantha. The Praja Rajyam has been actively wooing former Naxals in North Telangana and Palnadu area of Guntur to strengthen its base. Several former Naxals took part in meeting conducted on February 24 at LB Nagar by Chiranjeevi in which he promised to lift the ban on Maoists if he came to power. “Former Naxals have asked for at least 10 seats from Praja Rajyam,” said Mr S. Sambasivarao, who worked for Naxal frontal groups of Guntur district. One of them is Mr K. Seshagiri Rao alias Gopanna, a former Maoist leader who has come out of the TRS protesting the formation of Mahakutami. He is now demanding a ticket for Palakurthy constituency from Praja Rajyam for his wife, Mrs N. Manjula, who is also a former Maoist. The former Naxals claim that cases were booked against them on their aliases and not on their real names. This means that technically there are no cases against them. Mr Gopanna is facing trial in the case relating to a blast at Maredumilli in East Godavari where five CRPF jawans were killed in 2001. “There were five cases against me and I was acquitted in four,” said Mr Gopanna. “Technically there are no cases against my wife either.” In Manthani in Karimngar district, a former Maoist Bakka Rao alias Bakkanna is trying for a ticket from Praja Rajyam. Similarly, Mr Goverdhan, who was a member of Prathighatana, is trying for TRS ticket from Bhoopalapally constituency and Ms Seetakka, a former Naxal, wants to contest on TD ticket from Mulugu. Mr Suguna Rao, a former Maoist from Dachepally, is trying for Gurajala constituency and Mr Rayudu Nageswara Rao wants to contest for the PR from Kakinada-2 constituency.

Chiru Hyderabad Meeting Schedule In Parade Grounds

chiru1237345708
It was to be a prestigious public meeting and a show of strength by the actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi of Praja Rajyam at a premier venue of the city. Alas! It is not to be as the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) pipped him to the post.

Unknown to the PR, the BSP had secured Parade Grounds for a meeting to be addressed by its chief and U.P. Chief Minister Mayawati on March 23.

They booked the place by taking a temporary licence valid from March 20 to 24 through the Defence Estate Office sending PR activists into a tizzy on Tuesday.

Stunned PR leaders burnt telephone lines, and after frantic consultations, have now managed to secure the adjacent Bison Polo Grounds. Saving grace is that there is not much difference in size of both the grounds with the latter likely to be about 25 acres, slightly smaller than Parade Grounds, the usual venue for star politicians.

Mr. Chiranjeevi himself had announced a few days ago that the Secunderabad meeting scheduled for March 21 would showcase his party’s following among people.

It would be the third public meeting addressed by him after the maiden one at Tirupati and recent one at Rajahmundry.

But PR leaders forgot to secure the ground first by taking the temporary licence issued by the DEO here and blocking the meeting dates. The licence period could run into two to four days for the organisations concerned to make arrangements of stage, seating and related paraphernalia.

Security deposit

Interested parties should pay a licence fee of Rs. 1,250, Rs. 20,000 as security deposit and another sum of Rs. 10,000 as cleaning charges to restore the ground back to its original shape. BSP leaders who too were surprised had offered to “share” arrangements like the stage since Ms. Mayawati’s meeting was two days away but the PR wasn’t too keen.

Later in the day, the party managed to get the Polo Grounds from March 18 to 23, where NCC camps are held and which the Army authorities are usually reluctant to let out.

PRP gets to choose symbol first: EC

flag-copy
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday assured that the Prajarajyam Party (PRP) would get preference in choosing a free symbol from those available for independent candidates in the state. The PRP, it can be recalled, is seeking ‘Rail Engine’ as a symbol for all its candidates and even launched a legal battle against certain provisions of the EC’s symbol order for achieving this.

The Election Commission has filed its counter affidavit in the AP High Court in which it made it clear that since PRP is a registered party and not a recognised party, its candidates would be given preference in selecting their symbol from the free symbols. This would adequately protect the rights and interests of PRP and its candidates, Harpreet Singh, additional chief electoral officer of the state, said in the affidavit.

The case of TRS getting a common symbol in 2004 was because of an order from the AP High Court to consider the results secured by that party in the local bodies elections and also by-elections, he said. Reminding that the HC itself made it clear in that order that the TRS case cannot be treated as a precedent in the matters of symbol allotments in future, the EC authority said that they are not bound by that order now to allot a common symbol to PRP.

Responding to the contention of the PRP that since there is no prohibition on the EC to allot a common symbol, it should be given one, the EC authority said this would not entitle the PRP to seek any mandamus from the court. Stating that the classification of the political parties into registered, recognised, unrecognised, etc., made by the EC in its symbol order is an illegal exercise, the counsel for Prajarajyam told the division bench comprising Justice B Prakasa Rao and Justice G Bhavani Prasad. The Representation of People’s Act makes no such distinction, he said.

The EC however in its affidavit told the court that there are nearly 1000 registered unrecognized political parties in the country and it would be impossible for them to allot common free symbols to all of them. It also cited the cases of two other registered but unrecognised parties – Lok Satta and Mana Party – from Andhra Pradesh which are seeking a common free symbol. The bench would hear the case again on Tuesday.
