Purandheswari to campaign in Vijayawada today

puran_944064635
Daggubati Purandeshwari, the daughter of the founder of T.D.P, late N.T.R is to tour Vijayawada today. Purandheswari is known for her straight forward speeches and does not ape the style of her late father.

She has managed to establish an individual image for herself and is a part of the Congress unlike the remaining Nandamuri clan. Purandheswari openly accused Chandrababu Naidu of back-stabbing her father to capture power in the state.

She has however fulifilled her responsibilities as a daughter of the family by being available for the family during time of crisis. Purandheswari enjoys a sustained popularity among the female crowd and is the female face of the Nandamuri family. It would be an exciting campaign speech in Vijayawada today.

Predictions for AP Elections 2009

nommlacan
These people like Srinivasa Manapragada and Prabhu Koduri do not make any sense to me. Both of these parties (TDP and Praja Rajyam) have been very active in organizing their rallies and meeting here in the US. They both sling mud at each other and at Congress. When Srinivasa Manapragada talks about Jr. NTR and his relations with Nandamuri family and CBN in a bad way, Prabhu Koduri comes up with all these points against Chiru and family. He kept on talking bad about them and at the same time he kept on asking if he should talk about it. We all know what he was doing in his piece there. If he was very decent man, he could have simply said that he could bad about Chiru family too. That would have put everything in the right perspective. Also, he talked about PrajaRajyam supporters should be concentrating on their careers or otherwise TDP and Jr. NTR have to send them monthly rations and 2000Rs to your bank accounts to help them survive. I guess the same thought process should be applied to all these people (both TDP and PRP), who are wasting their time organizing rallies and meetings. Congress people here do not need this as you won’t see them in these activities. And one other thing in response to Prabhu Koduri: Andhra Pradesh is not your estate for you to feel that TDP and Jr. NTR will provide rations. CBN and TDP may never win this Election 2009 or any in future. Also, would CBN and co take Rajakeeya Sanyasam if they fail in their predictions too?

Now let’s get in to predictions for AP Election 2009. These are based on my observation, talking to different people in AP and of course reading news papers and their surveys. I call it Bhavishyavani and you can call it an observation! Please be reminded that I do not believe in any of our newspapers and their ability to be objective in writing news and stories. I read them but I take them with a grain of salt. If Eenadu’s predictions of sweep have to come true, the election commission has to allow only one caste (kamma) to participate in voting!

Assembly

Phase 1 (154 Seats):
Congress: 65-70, TDP Kootami: 60-65, PRP: 10-15, MIM: 7, Others 5-8

Phase 2 (140 Seats):
Congress: 80-85, TDP Kootami: 30-35, PRP: 20-25, Others 5-8

Total (294 Seats):

Congress: 145-155, TDP Kootami: 90-100, PRP: 30-40, MIM: 7, Others 10-16

Loksabha

Phase 1 (22 Seats):
Congress: 10-12, TDP Kootami: 8-10, PRP: 1-2, MIM: 1, Others 0-1

Phase 2 (20 Seats):
Congress: 12-14, TDP Kootami: 5-6, PRP: 2-3, Others 0

Total (42 Seats):

Congress: 22-26, TDP Kootami: 13-16, PRP: 3-5, MIM: 1, Others 0-1

Please do not rush to your conclusions right away and thro some numbers in response to my predictions. Think and respond with your number and be man enough to agree you were wrong if they do not come close to reality. I will do the same.

No majority in 1st phase:Intelligence Reports

ysr_chiru_cbn_600615326
The 1st phase of elections in Telangana and North Andhra have been over, and political parties are already into calculations as to how many their party will get. Each and every party is confident of victory and are upbeat in their moods.

The Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy says that Congress is going to get around 110 seats in the 1st phase at any cost.Next in the line is the Mahakutami comprising of TDP,TRS,CPI,CPI-M.They too are sounding confident and are saying that they will get around 100-115 seats.Adding to this list is the relatively new party,Prajarajyam, which has often been called as an underdog in Telangana.PRP chief Chiranjeevi is saying that his party is going to get anywhere between 70-75 seats. He says there is a silent wave for the prajarajyam party.

Keeping all these calculations aside, there are some Intelligence Reports coming from different quarters.According to these reports,no party is going to get full majority in the 1st phase. The much hyped development mantra and it’s stance on Telangana didn’t impress the voter much for the ruling Congress and they are expected to get 30-40 seats.

The Mahakutami thought that their colour tv and cash transfer scheme would work wonders for them and bring them votes. But again the voters didn’t fall prey to these political gimmicks and it is said to be getting around 40-50 seats.

The next comes film actor turned politician Chiranjeevi’s Prajarajyam party. What is surprising is that Chiru’s PRP successfully made dents to all the parties like Congress,TDP,and TRS.Even though being underdogs and with no cadre at all in the Telangana region,PRP is going to fare well when compared to older parties and is likely to get around 25-30 seats.Other parties like BJP,MIM,MBT and Independents might get around 10-15 seats.

The other region where polls were held simultaneously was North Andhra comprising of Vizag,Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. Here Mega Star’s PRP is quite strong right from the beginning and it is likely to bag around 20-25 seats, the Congress around 4-7 and the Telugu Desam party is likely to get around 3-5 seats.

What ever the reports say,all the parties are convinced that they will win majority of the seats in the first phase and have an upper hand in the second phase of elections which will be held on April 23.

Well,no guesses until May 16th.

Money Distribution In Coastal Districts

money3
The elections – 2009 has seen some really drastic changes in the way the politicians have been operating when it comes to distributing money and buying vote banks. Though no one admits it, this is the darkest truth of the politics in India that note gets the vote.

However, luck has favored the authorities a bit during the first phase as they managed to catch a haul of some fair amount of cash tuning upto few crores across the Telangana region. So this is said to have alerted the leaders who are contesting in the second phase and they have come up with some precautionary measures so that they don’t get caught in the distribution process. It is heard that huge amounts are being given away to various lower cadre leaders and workers to ensure that the votes fall to their own party and since rigging and booth capturing has become difficult these days, the parties are opting to go for the bribing and buying mode.
Inside sources say that despite giving the money to the voters, it is not always sure that they would vote for the same party but then that is taken out as about 5-8% and the rest of the votes usually come to them. It is known that politics is a dirty game but then it cannot get dirtier than this.

Re-polling only in 20 stations

i_v_subbarao_223043039

Re-polling is likely to be held only in 20 polling stations, where polling could not be held either due to minor clashes or non-functioning of electronic voting machines.

Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao said there was absolutely no disturbance from Maoists this time. Polling was suspended in 14 polling stations at Aiza village of Nagarkurnool LS constituency in Mahabubnagar district, as a large section of voters boycotted polling in protest against inclusion of the village in Alampur constituency. They clashed with other section of voters who were standing in queue for voting and destroyed the EVMs.

Over 65 percent polling in Andhra Pradesh

andhra-map
Over 65 percent of 31.2 million electors Thursday cast their votes in the first phase of elections in Andhra Pradesh where ballotting was held for 22 Lok Sabha and 154 assembly constituencies.

Barring minor incidents of violence, the polling remained peaceful. No radical leftwing violence was reported from any part of the state, once a stronghold of the Maoist movement in the country.

Polling ended at 4 p.m. However, in some polling booths officials allowed those standing in the queue to cast their votes even after the scheduled time.

The state’s Chief Electoral Officer I.V. Subba Rao told reporters this evening that polling was still on in 300 to 400 polling centres as authorities extended the timing in view of the delay caused in the morning due to technical snags in electronic voting machines (EVMs).

He said 65 percent of the 31.2 million voters, half of them women, cast their votes, sealing the fate of 2,148 candidates including 315 for the Lok Sabha.

The final poll percentage will be known after 9 p.m., he said.

The Medak Lok Sabha constituency recorded highest poll percentage of 75 while Hyderabad recorded the lowest at 54 percent.

“The polling was peaceful and smooth except for an incident in the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency,” he said.

Hyderabad and nine other districts in Telangana as well as three districts of north coastal Andhra bordering Orissa went to polls in the first phase.

The ruling Congress party and the four-party alliance led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are locked in a neck-and-neck battle in the first phase. The Praja Rajyam Party of superstar Chiranjeevi is the third major political force.

Among the prominent Lok Sabha candidates are central ministers S. Jaipal Reddy, Renuka Chowdhury and D. Purandareswari, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao and state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bandaru Dattatreya.

In the Alampur assembly segment of the Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha constituency in Mahbubnagar district, villagers attacked polling stations and damaged EVMs. The polling had to be stopped in 17 polling centres. The incident occurred in Aiza area where people were protesting their inclusion in the Alampur constituency in the delimitation process.

Subba Rao said the matter was referred to the Election Commission, which will take a decision on re-poll in these booths.

Re-poll is also likely in a few other booths where the poll officials failed to operate EVMs as per the guidelines or committed some mistakes.

Clashes between activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) were reported in some places in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency. There were reports of similar clashes between Congress and TDP activists in some constituencies. The polling, however, was not affected.

More than 60,000 policemen and 123 companies of paramilitary forces were deployed as part of the massive security arrangements.

Though the Maoist movement has considerably weakened in the state, police are on high alert, especially in areas bordering Chhattisgarh and Orissa.

Four helicopters were put on standby to ferry men and material as a precautionary measure but they were not used.

TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chiranjeevi and his family members, CEO Subba Rao, Director General of Police A.K. Mohanty and several others cast their votes in Hyderabad.

Popular actor and TDP star campaigner ‘Junior NTR’ came to a polling station on a stretcher and cast his vote. The star, who was injured in a road accident, reached the centre in an ambulance.

The second phase of polls April 23 will cover 20 Lok Sabha and 150 assembly constituencies in south coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.

Counting will be taken up May 16.

Does the CoI sanction sitting idle and getting doles?

chiru-all-pare
Not being a narcissist, I was surprised by my sudden urge to look into the magic mirror. I was more surprised to see myself sitting idle in an Indiramma house and watching colour TV. Someone looking official knocked the door, entered and gave me Rs 2000.
Is this the state of affairs to come after General Election 2009 which viciously violates my fundamental right to live with dignity, equality before law and right to work guaranteed by the Constitution of India (CoI)?

When I am exercising my right to franchise, I am electing a representative from my constituency, who will uphold the CoI, perform within the purview of the Laws of the Land and generously indulge in good governance so that my fundamental rights are not violated and I can work, earn and make both ends meet, so that I can walk with my head held high.

Just because I am a white ration card holder, am I entitled to live in a free house, watch colour TV and freely get Rs 2000 per month which is paid to me from the taxes paid by honest citizens from their hard earned salaries or profits?

Is giving out doles to white ration card holders not violation of the CoI guaranteed fundamental right of equality before law and the right to livelihood? Aren’t the non-white card holders discriminated against?

If giving money, liquor and other freebies before the voting day to purchase someone’s vote is an offence, then how come giving Colour TV and Rs 2000 per month after getting elected is right and lawful? Bribe or any corrupt inducement does not change its definition by the affix of BEFORE and suffix of AFTER

Citizens of India, beware of power-hungry wolves in sheep’s clothing who are promising the moon to usurp authority bereft of responsibility.

Do surely cast your vote. But, choose someone who is worthy of your right to vote.
