Congress, TDP try to measure Chiru vote

ap21239299689

The Praja Rajyam could be a game-changer in the second phase of elections on April 23, though it did not fare too well in the first phase.

It is believed that the Praja Rajyam will take up to 25 per cent of the votes in the segments where it commands influence, and up to 10 per cent elsewhere. The big question is from which party the votes will come from.

The second phase polls cover 140 Assembly seats in 10 districts of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema and is crucial to both the Congress and the Telugu Desam.

According to intelligence reports, the Congress can win 60 seats in the first phase and 90 out of the 140 going to the polls in the second. Winning anything less than 90 will make it difficult to retain power.

The TD and its poll partners have to win at least 60 seats in the second phase, after claiming that it will get 90 seats in the first. Both the Congress and the TD have acknowledged that they will suffer Chiranjeevi cuts in East and West God-avari districts. But it is the Chiranjeevi impact in Nell-ore, Prakasam, Guntur and Krishna districts that is wo-rrying the two main parties.

The Praja Rajyam candidates will poll between 5,000 and 20,000 votes in seats in these districts. That is a sizeable number in a keen contest. In Rayalaseema, however, the Praja Rajyam may not cut heavily into the Congress and TD votes as its influence is waning; the fight could be confined to a very few segments.

According to sources, Praja Rajyam candidates have edge over its rivals in Kakinada and Amalapuram Lok Sabha seats out of the 20 going to polls on April 23. Its influence is more felt in East and West Godavari districts. PR candidates have edge in the Assembly segments of Anantapur, Allagadda, Panyam, Alur, Rajampet, Proddutur and Tirupati, where Chiranjeevi is the party candidate.

It also expects a strong showing in Kavali, Nellore Town, Ongole, Giddalur, Guntur West, Vijayawada West, Bandar, Eluru, Polavaram and Palacole, where Chiranjeevi is also contesting. Jaggampet, Ramachandrapuram, Mummadivaram, Kottapeta, Mandapeta, Rajanagaram, Rajahmundry City, Peddapuram, P. Gannavaram and Kakinada Urban are other seats where the Praja Rajyam is seen to be strong.

Praja Rajyam Party admits to BC list fudge

chiru-meet
The Praja Rajyam has admitted that it has not given tickets to 104 backward classes candidates, a claim it was making to hype its “social justice.”

The allegation that the party had fudged figures was made by the former PR general secretary, Mr P. Prabhakar. The party president, Chiranjeevi, was so stung by the allegations that he threatened to quit politics if the charge were proved.

On Monday, Chiranjeevi’s actor-son, Ram Charan Teja acknowledged that 14 non-BCs had been included in the list. He was speaking to mediapersons at Bapatla, where he is participating in the Praja Rail Yatra.

In a giveaway, Charan said even if the 14 persons belonged to other castes, the Praja Rajyam had still given 90 seats to BCs, the highest among all parties.

The party’s vice-preside-nt, Mr T. Devender Goud, said there was some dispute on the caste of some contestants like Mr C. Ramachan-draiah, who belongs to the Balija caste. The Balijas are considered BCs in some places and OC at others.

BC organisations are up in arms over the allotment of tickets to non-BCs in the guise of BCs. Leaders of the BC organisations, like Mr R. Krishnaiah (BC Samksh-ema Sangham), Mr G. Krishna (BC Praja Samiti) and Mr S. Ramkoti (BC Ikya Vedika) demanded that the PR should release the names of all 104 candidates who it claimed belon-ged to the backward castes.

The TD chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, faulted the PR chief for allotting tickets to OCs in the guise of BCs. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, said, “Is it the change that the PR leadership has been harping on? None other than Chiranjeevi’s son is making light of the issue by saying that only 14 persons were OCs.”

All TV journalist faces Praja Rajyam Party

allchannels1
A sting operation carried out by a TV channel resulted in its woman reporter being jostled right in the Praja Rajyam headquarters on Tuesday.

NTV had telecast an alle-ged conversation between the party’s candidate from Bhongir Lok Sabha constituency, Mr Chandram-ouli Goud, and another leader, Mr Sama Prabhakar Reddy, who was denied a ticket from Ibrahimpatnam Assembly segment.

During the conversation, Mr Chandramouli Goud purportedly said the PR tic-kets were “sold” and that “weak candidates” had be-en fielded from some constituencies in a tacit understanding with other parties.

According to the TV cha-nnel, the PR vice-president, Mr T. Devender Goud, was instrumental in the party fielding weak candidates from some seats like the Bhongir LS and in others.

Mr Chandramouli Goud denied that he said the words being attributed to him. He however acknowledged that he was present in the video footage. He alleged that the audio of the tape was manipulated. Separately, Mr Devender Goud also denied the channel’s claim.

The telecast created a furore at the PR central office. During a media conference, the party’s woman wing chief, Ms Sobha Rani, pushed the channel’s journalist, Ms Rehana. Some activists snatched the camera from NTV cameraman.

New fears for Chiranjeevi family

chiru-son
Many heroes who intend to enter politics check if their films would affect their political careers. They take special care to not to appear in villain roles. They do Good Samaritan roles and say special dialogues to impress the masses. But this is all films effecting politics, but what if politics start effecting films? That is the new fear in the Chiru camp.

They now realize that the PRP cannot form the Government and they are a weak party. What if the PRP does badly and it starts showing up on Ramcharan’s career? What if fans start deserting Chiru and his family due to their bad political fortunes? What if Ramcharan’s films start flopping thanks to dad’s political flip flops?

If indeed these new fears become a reality, then, some of the careers in the Chiru family would be stalled forever. Think of it, it may be a reality!!

TV Channels sting hits PRP credibility

allchannels1
Barely 48 hours ahead of polling for the first phase in the State, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) Tuesday received a rude jolt in the form of a sting operation by a regional TV channel, casting doubt over the party’s credibility.
Making matters worse, PRP’s women’s wing Mahila Rajyam president Shobha Rani acted high-handedly with the channel’s reporter and cameraman and tried to snatch the camera.
Shobha Rani’s high-handedness with the crew of the TV channel evoked a rash of protests among mediapersons.
Journalist unions condemned her behaviour and sought action against her by the Election Commision (EC).
However, Shobha Rani later tendered an apology to the reporter and the cameraman but demanded that the channel management apologise for the sting operation carried out, dubbing it as sham.
The channel telecast the sting operation in which PRP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bhongir Chandramouli Goud told a party leader S Prabhakar Reddy that PRP vice-president Devender Goud had taken money from the Congress to field him from there.
Chandramouli Goud alleged that Devender Goud deliberately fielded him from Bhongir constituency to help the Congress candidate win from there. He alleged that Devender Goud had taken big amounts of money from the Congress for `match-fixing’.
As soon as the operation was telecast, the PRP felt the heat and its party leaders tried to scale down the impact.
Devender Goud said the operation was a conspiracy hatched by the Congress and the TDP to suppress the SCs, STs and BCs.
Party political affairs committee member KSR Murthy stated that such practices would be dealt with seriously and not be tolerated even if party general secretary and Chiranjeevi’s brother- in-law Allu Aravind was involved.
Chandramouli Goud said he was not aware of the operation and had casually spoken to Prabhakar Reddy.
Soon after the incident, the victims, along with journalists from other media organisations, lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) I V Subba Rao and requested him to take action against the accused.
The CEO termed the attack on journalists as an unfortunate incident and assured to take up the issue with the Director-General of Police to initiate action against the accused as per law.
Meawhile, PRP leader Upendra, along with other leaders, called upon the CEO asking for restrictions on the TV channel for telecasting false news.
He termed the sting operation as an attack of rival political parties using dubbed video.

Ram Charan’s train show fails to pull crowds

ramcharan1236068827
The ‘Train Show’ of cine star Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan Teja turned out to be a damp squib with hardly a few tens of people receiving him at Guntur, Tenali, Ponnur and Bapatla Railway stations on Monday.

A battery of journalists, along with a host of Praja Rajyam Party candidates and workers thronged the Guntur railway station giving no impression of any special ‘political’ train passing this way and the platform was empty making it easier for the fans to go closer to the Third AC compartment of Ram Charan.

The Guntur Lok Sabha Candidate Thota Chandrasekhar, Guntur East candidate Shaik Showkath, and some others came out from the compartment and were introduced to the people standing outside.

Asserts claim
Asserting his party’s claim that they had done social justice by allocating seats to all sections of the society, he asked people to vote for PRP by displaying the party election symbol ‘Rail Engine’.

Press meet
After a 10-minute show on the train, he along with the party candidates addressed a press conference on the platform and got going.

The train chugged off to Ponnur where a motley crowd greeted him and a hundred of them at Tenali.

Jai Chirutha and Jai Chiranjeeva slogans rent the air at all stations with party flags fluttering all over the railway station at Bapatla.

Ram Charan said he had come to canvass for the candidates as his family members were busy campaigning elsewhere in the state. “I am doing my bit to promote the party that would take care of all sections of the society.”

TDP Chief CBN: ‘Chiru Is Dangerous Than YSR’

chiru-ysr-babu1239691926

In a special interview in flight, with TV5, Chandrababu Naidu was asked to express his opinion on Chiranjeevi.

Then he immediately started saying, “I have to first explain about YSR to say about Chiranjeevi. YSR is a cruel factionist. He helps only the people those he like. He toes down the people those are not liked by him. That is very dangerous for democratic system. But Chiranjeevi is more dangerous, because, he is ‘asamardhudu’. The rule of an ‘asamardhudu’ will be more dangerous for democracy. It took 1 month for me to prepare for manifesto. It took one month for me to filed candidates. But Chiranjeevi hardly spent any time on both. Moreover he has no manifesto. He has no understanding also. His brother in law works on fielding candidates. Some other person writes script. Some other fellow reads the so called manifesto. It’s like cinema shooting in PRP”.

In fact, Chandrababu came out with his expression in very hard manner today.

Chiru’s kin hit the Family Road Shows

chbiri-family
The contest for the Tirupati Assembly constituency, from where Praja Rajyam (PR) president Chiranjeevi is trying to make his political debut is getting curious by the day.

A week after Chiru himself conducted an extensive road show in the temple city, on Sunday it was the turn of his family members to criss-cross its lanes and bylanes from on board an open-top vehicle.

Mr. Chiranjeevi’s family which set out on a road show from the predominantly workers’ colony Jeeva Kona comprised his younger sister Madhavi, her husband Gopal Raju and brother Nagababu’s wife Padmaja.

A split troupe had earlier in the day trekked through other colonies like Sathyanarayanapuram, Maruthi Nagar and Korlagunta seeking votes for the matinee idol. No prominent PR leader from the city unit could be however seen in the troupe.

The family members are expected to stay back here till the polling slated for April 23. Some more are also expected to join the team in course of time while Mr. Chiranjeevi himself is expected to hit the Tirupati roads once again on the last two days of the campaign for a wrap-up round to leave a lasting impression on his fans-cum-voters.
For visual effect

Interestingly, some of the second grade theatres in the city are said to be screening some old hit movies of the megastar — thanks to the campaign manoeuvres of his poll managers.

The idea is to derive maximum visual publicity for Chiranjeevi without raising the hackles of the election authorities.
