Chiranjeevi says PRP won’t use cheap tactics

chiru-prp4
Since the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) was immensely popular, there was no need to resort to cheap tactics like distributing liquor and money to lure voters, said PRP president Chiranjeevi.

He was addressing media after meeting the former Election Commission observer KJ Rao and former Chief Justice of the High Court Ambati Laxmana Rao at the party office here today. KJ Rao and Laxman Rao are leaders of a vigilance forum, Election Vigilance Forum- AP. They are visiting several political parties to explain about their mission for a free and fair election.

Interacting with Chiranjeevi, they said the next elections were going to be fierce and political parties would employ several methods to win over voters. They urged the PRP president to follow values in the elections and inform them if there was any violation on the part of the other parties.

Chiranjeevi said free supply of liquor was going to play a major role this time during the elections. He said he would check the party candidates’ names with the list published by the Election Vigilance Forum, which had the names of those who had a criminal background.

Special Interview with Shri Devender Goud

devendar-goud
T Devender Goud, a seasoned politician, talks with restraint. He does not get angry even when provoked. But he does not hesitate to speak what he believes even if it hurts his friends. His association with the Telugu Desam Party was two-and-half decades.

He developed so much attachment with the party because it gave the leaders like him from the rural background a chance to come to the centre stage in the State politics. He still reveres Telugu thespian Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, who founded the Telugu Desam Party.

Devender Goud, who is credited with resurrecting the Telugu Desam Party in the Telangana region after its rout in 2004 elections, quit the party in June, 2008. He has unveiled a new party Nava Telangana Party to campaign for a separate statehood for Telangana and fight for social justice.

In a lengthy interview to andhramania.com Special Correspondent, Devender Goud has frankly expressed his opinion on several aspects, including on the style of functioning of Telugu Desam Party president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

goud1
Following are the excerpts:
Q: You are said to have quit the Telugu Desam Party not only because of a separate Telangana issue but also because of your detestation of the style of functioning of the party president N Chandrababu Naidu. How far it is true?

A: First of all, the Telugu Desam Party was in power for a little over 17 years in the past 25 years since its inception. A sort of sloppiness and indiscipline developed in the party. Once we were out of power, I thought it was high time that we put our house (party) in order. So I told Chandrababu Naidu to encourage new elements. I specifically told him that “you (Naidu) have lost your credibility. You must try to rebuild your credibility as a leader.” It is because the leader’s credibility is more important for the regional parties to survive. But he remains unchanged. When we were in power, we corrected several of mistakes Naidu had committed.

Q: But you remained in the party for almost three-and-half years even after the party was routed in the 2004 elections. Why did you not come out early?

A: I developed a lot of affection for the party. The party under the leadership of its founder N T Rama Rao gave opportunity for people like me from rural background to come to the centre stage in the State politics. So I remained in the party, all the time trying to rejuvenate it. The party leaders in the Telangana region came out only after I undertook padayatra and slept in the hostels for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The media, too, credited me with securing good results wherever I visited during the bypolls following the en masse resignations of the MLAS and MPs belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Earlier to my padayatra in the Telangana region, the party leaders used to hold press conferences in the party office and read whatever appeared in a section of the Press before they retired to the comforts of their houses. I told the leaders, including Naidu, that it was not the way to strengthen the party. But they did not heed my advice.

Q: What is your assessment of Naidu? Why, do you think, he has lost credibility?

A: Because of gimmicks. He always depends on short-cuts for power. He craves for power.

Q: How do you react to the Left parties aligning themselves with the Telugu Desam Party after fighting a bitter war against Naidu in the run up to the 2004 elections?

A: You tell me whether the same combination — CPI, CPI-M and the TRS — did not join hands with the Congress during the 2004 elections. Then they said they wanted to oust Chandrababu Naidu. Now they target Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

goud2
Q: How far the grand alliance of parties can succeed?
A: It will be a great flop.

Q: Now you are out of the Telugu Desam Party. Could you throw some more light on its internal affairs? Is it true that you had warned Chandrababu Naidu several times when he was the chief minister to change his style of functioning and his attitude towards weaker sections and farmers?

A: Yes. I warned him several times. I criticised his anti-farmer approach in public also. It is very difficult to change the attitude of a person, you know.

Q: You mean Chandrababu Naidu?

A: I mean what I said.

Q: What prompted you to join hands with film actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi?

A: The Praja Rajyam Party is a new party and it is wedded to social justice. People want a change. We will succeed.

Q: How do you propose to resolve the Naxalite issue if you come to power?

A: I always believe it is a socio-economic programme. I told Chandrababu Naidu, too, when he was the chief minister, that it cannot be handled as law and order problem alone. I have plans to resolve it. Economic issues, too, are involved in it.

Q: You were projected as championing the cause of integrated Andhra Pradesh when you were in the Telugu Desam Party. How come you are now campaigning for a separate Telangana?

A: Well. I respected the party’s policy as long as I was in the Telugu Desam Party. What is wrong in two state theory. Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand have witnessed a lot of development after they were formed. Their Gross Domestic Product had gone up.

Subject:
– Election symbol to Praja Rajyam Party

Dear Sir,

I am an NRI from USA and would like to bring the following for consideration and favorable action.

I am a well wisher of Praja Rajyam Party in Andhra Pradesh, which has more than 50 Lakh registered members and the Party and its President Mr. Chiranjeevi has a huge following in rural areas of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Quite a few of these voters are either illiterate or semi-literate and therefore, rely on the symbol to cast their votes. Lack of a common symbol for the party is bound to confuse voters and deprive them of choosing the leader of their choice. In the absence of allocation of a common symbol, the voters’ ignorance will cause undue advantage for other parties.

Again, the post election scenario of not having a single symbol could also open legal issues and validity of elected member’s association to the party. Therefore, request the CEC to consider this appeal and grant the party with a dedicated single symbol.

Thank You in advance for considering this request.

Sincerely

Chiranjeevi said the YSR should take the MRPS responsibility

chirumeet-in-chilakaluripet
This government had created hopes among the Madiga community on categorisation but deceived them. The PR chief said his party would ensure categorisation of SCs as a part of social justice. Referring to the comments of CPI (M) State secretary B.V.Raghavalu that if Mr. Chiranjeevi was serious about defeating the Congress, he should join the Mahakutami, the actor-turned politician said asking him to join the Mahakutami proved that they were weak.

No contest club of Pawn, Jr.NTR and Mahesh

mahesh-pawan-ntr

Hyderabad/Mar/4: While many politicians jumping like frogs into other parties, only because they are denied party tickets, surprisingly there is a “No-contest-club” also in our dirty politics. The distinguished list of the club members includes names of Jr.NTR-TDP, Pawan Kalyan-Praja Rajyam, Finance Minister K.Rosayya, King Nagarjuna , and Prince Maheshbabu, from Congress party.

Many others who are ready to made sacrifices of their seats for the sake of their beloved leaders, and who tried hard and doesn’t get tickets, but express their un interest to contest the elections are considered to be additional members of this club.

Yuva Rajyam president Pawan Kalyan today declared that he will not contest elections from any where, and serve the party like a loyal soldier. Jr. NTR , who is going to start his road shows with in a week time from now, is also not interested to contest, but has his own list of candidates to whom he demands party tickets. Nagarjuna , declared in advance that he doesn’t fit for politics, and campaigning for congress, only because he very much impressed by the welfare schemes declared by YSR govt and of course, no other reasons behind the scene.

If the old horse of the state joins the club, and allows the youth to take charge of the state, one can expect some improvement in the worsening situation of the state. But, it’s a greedy ambition. Isn’t it?

Chiranjeevi says Govt must pay 5 lakh to Surender’s family

HYDERABAD: Rattled by the Election Commission’s rejection of its application for a common election symbol, the Praja Rajyam (PR) has desperately begun looking for different options, including a tie-up with another party that does not have a presence in Andhra Pradesh and using its symbol. Before exploring such options, the PR is preparing to move the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission’s six-page order declaring that it was not entitled to a uniform symbol.

Brave face
PR president Chiranjeevi, however, put up a brave face about the setback. Fielding questions at an impromptu meeting with presspersons after his return from Mahabubnagar on Tuesday, he said,

“We are still fighting and will continue to do so till the last minute. In the event of failure, we have alternative plans.” Repeated queries about the fall-back options failed to elicit a response beyond that the party was likely to move the Supreme Court.

Later, when asked specifically, Mr. Chiranjeevi told The Hindu that one of the options they were looking at was to tie-up with a party that did not have a presence in Andhra Pradesh and use its symbol. The party’s legal brains, he said, were studying the Xth Schedule of the Constitution that clearly stipulated how a break-up could happen between two parties that contested the elections on a common symbol.

PR general secretary Parakala Prabhakar said, “We are confident that the Supreme Court will ask the EC to use its discretionary powers to give us a common symbol.”

Pavan says, PRP will provide a permanent solution to the fluoride

pavan-kalyan
Praja Rajyam Party if voted to power will provide a permanent solution to the fluoride problem long plaguing Nalgonda district, promised Yuva Rajyam president Pawan Kalyan. Safe drinking water would be supplied to all villages in the district within four months of coming to power, he added. Addressing a road show at Marriguda as part of the Praja Ankita Yatra today, he said that successive governments had failed to mitigate the sufferings of the people living in the fluoride-affected villages. Instead of discussing serious issues, the ruling and Opposition parties have wasted Assembly time by levelling corruption charges against each other, he said. Pawan Kalyan said that the Rajasekhara Reddy Government which had spent crores of rupees in the name of Jalayagnam had not evinced any interest in supplying protected water to the people of Nalgonda district. He reiterated that he would not contest in the ensuing elections but would remain a worker. Expressing concern over the poor standards of education in the State, the actor-turned politician said that the PRP would introduce job-oriented courses. Besides supplying free power to farmers and weavers, the PRP would also redress the problems of toddy tappers. He also promised to convert the district into a green belt. He said that he had got a survey done four years ago on the fluorosis problem and wanted to donate funds but had to withdraw the proposal due to political interference. Pavan Kalyan also addressed a road show at Devarakonda. Earlier, the Yuva Rajyam president interacted with the people of the fluoride-affected Khudhabhakshapally.

PR exercise ‘Explain Harikrishna, Shalini relation’

“Harikrishna has neglected Shalini and has no moral right to ask for votes… The Telugu Desam always evades this issue. So we will take it up” Praja Rajyam leader

The Praja Rajyam, still sulking at the ruckus created by the Telugu Desam over its leader Pavan Kalyan’s “live-in” relationship, has decided to pay back in the same coin by raising the issue of NTR’s son, Mr Harikrishna’s relationship with Ms Shalini.

The party alleges that TD leader Mr Harikrishna has not married Ms Shalini, mother of Junior NTR, and has been maintaining a “live-in” relationship with her.

Praja Rajyam leaders are planning to make it an election issue and raise the demand that Mr Harikrishna marry Ms Shalini.

After TD leaders had made snide remarks about Pavan’s live-in relationship with Renu Desai, the duo got married last month. Now PR leaders want the same kind of “justice” to be meted out to Ms Shalini.

“We will certainly raise this issue,” said Ms Vasireddy Padma, official spokesperson of the party. “They pointed fingers at our leader and repeatedly spoke about Nandini and her divorce with Pavan Kalyan.” Since Pavan had divorced her and married Renu Desai, Mr Harikrishna should declare the status of Junior NTR’s mother in their family, said the spokesperson.

“We will expose them if the TD does not stop making personal remarks against our leaders,” she warned.

The Praja Rajyam leaders said that NTR family has kept Junior NTR and his mother away from the family for many years. In fact, Junior NTR met his grandfather, Mr N.T. Rama Rao, only when he was 11, they pointed out. “Harikrishna has neglected Shalini and has no moral right to ask for votes,” said a Praja Rajyam leader.

“The TD always evades this issue and so we will raise it.” TD leaders and members of NTR family refused to react.

Mr Harikrishna was also not available for comment.

When contacted, senior party leader P. Shivshanker elaborated that if an arrangement materialises with a party outside the State, the latter could write to the EC saying it had no objection to the symbol being given to the PR. Once the elections were over, the PR would get its identity back through an amicable split. Proof put up PR general secretary Parakala Prabhakar said, “We are confident the Supreme Court will ask EC to use its discretionary powers to give us a common symbol. We have put up all the papers — including proof of Mr. Chiranjeevi’s immense popularity in the form of videos showing the turnout at his public meetings and roadshows, newspaper clippings and proof that our membership had exceeded 50 lakh.”

Chiranjeevi floors people in Mahabubnagar

chiru-hands1
The mood among the workers and leaders of Praja Rajyam is upbeat what with huge turnouts at the road shows addressed by actor-turned-politician and party chief Chiranjeevi. During his four-day tour in the district, which concluded on Monday night, he covered 13 Assembly constituencies in the district . The lone Assembly segment left was Alampur. Though Chiranjeevi’s speech was repetitive, the crowds responded with loud cheers whenever he criticised Congress and Telugu Desam parties. Most of them were youth who waited patiently for hours in the scorching sun to have a glimpse of their favourite hero. Mr. Chiranjeevi appealed to the people to vote for Praja Rajyam for a change, development of the State and corruption-free governance. He lashed out at the government and Telugu Desam for ignoring people’s problems and indulging in corruption. He said Mahabubnagar was not a backward district, but it was “pushed backward” by the successive governments though there were resources aplenty. Although river Krishna traverses through the district, the governments failed not only in providing water for irrigation but also drinking water. Due to lack of water for irrigation, people were forced to migrate to other places in search of livelihood, he added. He tried to touch the hearts of people evincing concern over their miseries. Mr. Chiranjeevi interacted with the farm labourers who were migrating to Mumbai by boarding a Mumbai-bound RTC bus which happened to go past his convoy. He also interacted with the lambadas at Sarvareddypally tanda. Besides tasting their food, he danced with them. Mr. Chiranjeevi also took interest in the problems faced by handloom weavers in the district.
