Politics spoiling relations, says Chiru

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi is already into neck-deep political mire; and he has realised that he cannot come out of it.

On Sunday, Chiranjeevi said he was pained at the way hundreds of activists belonging to his fans associations deserted the PRP and joined the Congress. “It hurt me very much, as they did not understand me and my compulsions properly. I never expected that politics would spoil relationships and distance people whom I thought were my close friends and relatives,” he said.

The PRP president said distribution of tickets was done based on merit and chances of winning. This would have definitely caused heartburn among the other aspirants. “But, we stood by our principle of social justice,” he said.

Jayaprada speaks to DC: ‘I might join PR in future

Posted by chiru On April - 4 - 2009

The Samajwadi Party MP and actor, Jayaprada, feels that fellow actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi might become the Chief Minister of the state. She is also toying with the idea of joining the Praja Rajyam in the future.

She revealed this while speaking to this newspaper on Friday after celebrating her birthday at Tirumala along with her husband, mother and other family members. Excerpts from the interview:

How special is the Samajwadi Party to you? Why did you leave the TD?

I find many similarities between the Samajwadi Party and the Telugu Desam. Mr Mulayam Singh is like N.T. Rama Rao. His vision is similar to that of NTR, be it welfare schemes or the longing for people’s good. Both parties even have cycle as the election symbol.

How many seats is the SP expecting in the elections?
Not less than 40 out of 80. I am confident that the SP would play a crucial role in national politics. I am also confident that Mr Mulayam Singh will be the Prime Minister one day. At present, tentative talks are on with Mr Paswan and Mr Lalu. There is no chance of Mayawati becoming the Prime Minister.

Tell us about the winning chances of your fellow actor Chiranjeevi in AP?
In 1983, when NTR walked the streets, people saw God coming to them. But the situation is different now. However, Chiranjeevi is a fine human being. People have seen the Congress and the Telugu Desam and are clearly hoping for a change. The chances of Chiranjeevi becoming the Chief Minister seem certain.

Do you have any plans of joining the Praja Rajyam?
Of course, it might happen in future.

Why didn’t you contest from AP?
Ok. I will contest from AP after five years. Wherever I may be, my heart always beats for my Telugu people.

What prompted you to turn from films to politics?
When I was at school in Rajahmundry, I was a die-hard fan of NTR. I never expected that I would act with him (in the Telugu movie Adavi Ramudu). Similarly, I never expected that my hero would be my leader one day and I would join the Telugu Desam. It is all destiny.

Tell us about the BSP and the BJP?
The rise of Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh blocked the progress of the state. Law and order problems are on the rise. During her birthday celebrations, huge amounts were collected. Officials who didn’t obey her orders were killed. The crime rate is going up alarmingly. There is no protection for women. Coming to the BJP, its prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani is dangerous than George Bush.

Do you support the Women Reservation Bill?
I will never forget that. Even during my maiden speech in the TD, I insisted on realising 33 per cent reservation for women. It will continue to be an impractical thing until and unless politicians come forward with pure hearts. As chairperson of the UPA, Mrs Sonia Gandhi utterly failed to do justice to the demand. I am unhappy that the blame is always put on the Samajwadi Party.

Is there any possibility of an alliance between the SP and the Congress?

I am just a party worker. I feel that the Congress wants to avoid us. It is used to a use-and-throw style. But only the future will reveal the shape of alliances.

PR rebels plan new fronts

Posted by chiru On April - 4 - 2009

The rebellion in the Praja Rajyam intensified on Friday with the party’s women’s wing chief attacking the party, and disgruntled leaders forming their own outfits.

Ms Sobha Rani, Mahila Rajyam president, said the allotment of tickets lacked rationality. The PR leadership was not implementing its self-professed social justice formula in allotting tickets, she said after the Vemuru (SC) seat she was aspiring for was given to Mr Katti Padma Rao, writer and dalit activist.

The activist and Vijayawada-based physician, Dr G. Samaram, who conducted meetings with social groups before the party was launched, disapproved of the role of Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law, Mr Allu Aravind, in allotting tickets.

A senior leader, Mr K.S.R. Murthy, is said to be unhappy as he was denied a ticket from Amalapuram Lok Sabha. The spokespersons, Ms Vasireddy Padma and Mr G. Sridhar, are contemplating quitting the party as they did not get tickets from Nandigama Assembly and Warangal Lok Sabha seats.

The former MLA, Mr Masala Eranna, decided to continue fast unto death in front of the party office despite his ill health. Mr M. Sudarshan, brother of the former minister, Mr M. Mareppa, is also on fast.

In Visakha-patnam, the fans and rebels have formed Jai Chiran-jeeva to take on official candidates. Angry fans in Warangal are planning to float the Telangana Praja Rajyam along with rebels.

East Godavari cadres in suspense

Posted by chiru On April - 2 - 2009

Suspense is running high among Praja Rajyam cadres in East Godavari with party chief Chiranjeevi yet to finalise candidates.

Congress and Telugu Desam have announced their candidates for 19 Assembly segments and three parliamentary constituencies, and the PRP aspirants had been hoping that the honcho would make his choice known during his five-day Praja Ankita Yatra.

Meanwhile, PRP is trying to field film hero of yesteryear Krishnam Raju from the Rajahmundry parliamentary constituency to face another glamorous face of yore Murali Mohan (TDP) and Congress candidate Undavalli Arun Kumar.

Raju is keen to contest the Kakinada parliamentary seat which he had won earlier as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate. If Krishnam Raju rejects the Rajahmundry ticket, the PRP chief will finalise the candidature of Margani Nageswara Rao or Jasti Murthy.

As for the Kakinada parliamentary constituency, PRP leader Chalamalasetti Sunil is vying for the ticket. What will happen if Krishnam Raju were given this is an interesting question.

For the Amalapuram parliamentary constituency, the PRP is trying to field Prameela, wife of former Mala Mahandu leader PV Rao.

The Assembly hopefuls are impatient, moreso since Congress and TDP candidates have already started electioneering.

But the PRP top brass seems apprehensive over the reaction of disappointed cadres at a time when the supremo is touring the district.

The wrath being faced by the party from cadres in Telangana and North Andhra districts has made them wary.

For their part, the cadres feel it would have been best for Chiranjeevi to make the announcement during the Praja Ankita Yatra and introduce the candidates to the people.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi has said he would announce the list after the completion of the yatra in the district.

Fans should get their share of Representation

Posted by chiru On April - 2 - 2009

Rama Dandu, Rama Bantu, Chiru Sena, Chiru Yuvatha, what ever name may be all of them carried the name in their shoulders for the past 30 years. These are the people who organized rallies to bring Chiranjeevi in to Politics.

Now Chiranjeevi is saying that ‘It could be a Historical Blunder’ if he was not into politics and public service. He should also realize that his fans are the prime motivation for him to take that right decision. But now they are the most neglected group in allocating the party tickets.

May it be Ch. Venkateswara Rao, the President of Rashtra Chiranjeevi Yuvatha, Ravanam Swamy Naidu, the Founder Secretary, Rashtra Chiranjeevi Yuvatha, Ramu Yadav, C.Srikanth Kumar and the list goes on?

They are also humans and are the people who managed the show for all these years more effectively. These are the people who carried the message of Chiranjeevi’s Blood and Eye donation to the general public.

Party should not take them light and ignore them as their employees. They also should be given due representation and should give righteous opportunity to become public servants and grow like a Balayogi,Devender Goud,Yanamala RamaKrishnudu,Sripathi Rajewsar so on and so forth.

Ultimately Loyalty Should Pay.

Chiru is a Great Star in Real Life

At last, major travel operator Kesineni Nani on Monday resigned from Praja Rajyam Party, even before he was expelled from the party for his letter to party president Chiranjeevi, making pungent comments.

The first thing Nani did after resigning was to go to TV channels to participate in live shows, where he made much stronger remarks against Chiranjeevi. “He is a great actor, not only in films, but also in real life. He knows everything about what was going on PRP in Vijayawada. Yet, he remained silent, only to protect the interests of his own community people,” Nani alleged.

Nani’s exist will repolarise voters in Krishna district. As expected, he may join the Telugu Desam party and with him, a section of Kamma community might tilt towards TD. This will not help Chiranjeevi and he has to focus on how to keep his flock together in the coastal Andhra, because Nani resignation might have spill-over effect in neighbouring districts, too.
