Devender Goud joins hands with Chiranjeevi

Hyderabad : Nava Telangana Party of former Andhra Pradesh home minister T Devender Goud on Sunday joined hands with actor Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party, impressed by the latter’s “Social Telangana” slogan.

Goud met Chiranjeevi at the PRP office here this morning and discussed the political scenario and expressed his party’s decision to forge an alliance with the latter.

Talking to reporters, Devender Goud said the PRP too was working on the same ideals like his NTP. “Our party has been formed on the basis of carving out a ‘Social Telangana’ which the PRP too has endorsed. Together we shall work for the cause of Telangana,” Goud added.

Chiranjeevi hailed the NTP’s decision to join hands with his party.

The PRP chief said his party still continued talks with another separatist party Telangana Rashtra Samiti on a possible electoral alliance. “Our doors are still open,” he remarked.

Asked about this, the NTP chief said his party would have no objection over PRP’s electoral alliances. “The PRP is free to forge alliances with any party. In fact, we would welcome the party’s ties with any pro-Telangana party,” Goud said.

He added that share of seats and other issues would be discussed at a later stage.

Devender Goud quit the Telugu Desam Party in June this year to float the Nava Telangana Party. For sometime now, there has been speculation that he would join hands with Chiranjeevi or even merge his party with the PRP.

Political analysts see Goud’s move as the first step towards a possible merger of NTP with PRP.

Chiranjeevi prajarajyam Community Lunch a Hit

Prajarajyam President Chiranjeevi having community lunch with Dalits in Medak district has turned out to be a master stroke.

Though taking lunch or dinner with people is not a new idea, Chiranjeevi’s decision has given him the much needed credibility and strengthened his “social justice” agenda. He not only sat among Dalit women for lunch, but also served them food and got their blessings.

Later, he shook hands with them and posed for photographs with them. Obviously, it would help him gain a lot of political mileage. In a bid to gain further sympathy among the Dalits, Chiranjeevi said though the successive governments had been claiming to be spending crores of of rupees on the welfare of Dalits, not even a few thousands are reaching the beneficiaries, while politicians pocketed crores of rupees.

Let us see what would be the strategies of other parties on this Chiru’s master stroke.

Prajarajyam will Strive to End Political Corruption

The prajarajyam (PRP) would strive to eliminate political corruption which had been India’s bane so much that many members of Parliament and Legislative Assemblies were getting commissions in the constituency development funds. Massive allocations were made in the budget but only a negligible portion of that was reaching the beneficiaries because of corruption which had taken deeper roots in recent times, said PRP advisor and manifesto committee co-convener KSR Murthy.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Murthy said political corruption had become such a menace that even Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had sought the scrapping of MPLADS to stem the rot but no member of Parliament agreed with his view. There could be no better evidence of this sordid state of affairs than the fact that the members of Parliament were not prepared to forfeit their share of the pie, he said.

The MLAs were no exception to thistrend.PRP would set an example by promoting persons with clean track record and, challenged that even a booth level worker of it could not be bought by those seeking to subvert the electoral process.

The PRP leader said the party’s membership drive was intensified and each person who aspired for ticket was asked to enrol at least 10,000 people. District presidents and other executive members would be appointed soon, Mr. Murthy said.

Prajarajyam praty holds Candlelight Rally Against Terrorism

Hundreds of activists, leaders and sympathisers of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) participated in an impressive candle rally from the party office in Sikhamani centre in protest against the recent terror attacks on the country’s commercial capital, Mumbai.

The participants raised slogans enthusiastically, denouncing the acts of terrorists and paid rich tributes to those who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation in the Operation Cyclone. The rally meandered through 5 Route and the lanes of Moghalarajapuram, as many admirers of party chief Chiranjeevi joined the procession.

Senior leader Chegondi Harirama Jogaiah, who was here in connection with party meetings, flagged off the rally. Speaking briefly to reporters later, Mr. Jogaiah said there was nothing that the Praja Rajyam Party would lose because of the alliance of the Telugu Desam Party and the Left parties. “There is nothing that the TDP will gain from this. Our party’s chances will not be affected in any circumstances,” he said.

Regarding the possible truck with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Mr. Jogaiah refused to speak anything except that the issue would be tackled at the level of the party chief and that Mr. Chiranjeevi would take the final decision. Those who participated in the rally were G. Chandrasekhar, Boppana Bhava Kumar and others.

Chiranjeevi Party tickets

Actor-turned-politician Mr Chiranjeevi would not make any impact in the forthcoming general elections but would contribute to the continued degeneration of the TDP to ensure a smooth sail for the ruling Congress. This is based on a survey conducted by an independent research organisation, Centre for Documentation Research and Communications (CDRC).

“We have surveyed 265 of the 294 Assembly constituencies. The rest could not be covered due to logistical reasons. We had a total sample size of 1.19 lakh eligible voters in proportion with social configuration at the field level. The survey covered every mandal in each constituency during four phases in four weeks ending first week of October”, CDRC director Mr N Venugopal said. He is editor for Telugu monthly, Veekshanam, who exclusively made the data available to The Statesman. CDRC accurately predicted the municipal polls, local bodies’ elections and the recent by-elections in Telangana.

The survey gave the nascent Praja Rajyam Party 45 seats, 36 of which would be in Coastal Andhra alone. This shows it is clearly eating into the TDP’s traditional vote base in that region. The TDP would drop 12 seats in the region to get only ten. Overall the TDP would get 41 seats a drop of six seats from the 2004 results.

The survey was done on the premise that the Congress would go it alone as its 2004 allies ~Telangana Rashtra Samithi, CPI-M and CPI ~have deserted it. The Congress would drop eleven seats to land at 170, down from 181, but ahead of the half-way mark of 147. It would drop 30 seats in Coastal Andhra. Compared to 2004 the region lost eleven constituencies due to de-limitation. This process caused Telangana to gain 12 constituencies.

Further the Congress would retain its strength in Telangana despite not making any concrete assertions on the separate statehood issue. It would get 57 seats, four more than what it got with the alliances in 2004. The TRS in alliance with the Congress won 26 seats, but now it is down to 15. The TDP would get 23 seats in Telangana, which would be the highest in all three regions.

‘Chiranjeevi is a selfish hero’

Rajasekhar’s ‘mega’ serial continued on Tuesday too. This time Rajasekhar and Jeevita raised their voice higher than ever and targeted Chiranjeevi in every possible way. They said ‘Chiranjeevi is a selfish hero and didn’t do anything for Tollywood. He will not serve the people for sure. We will try to create awareness among people about him. We will try to bring down the votes which are presently in favor of him’.

‘Chiranjeevi is not Andarivadu, he is Andanivadu (not reachable). We watched him closely and clearly know what kind of a person he is. If we allow him to become CM then we people of Andhra Pradesh and our Children’s future will be shattered. We don’t want him to win at least a single seat in coming elections’ Rajasekhar said.
Soon after Rajasekhar ‘Show’ the ‘mega’ reaction came from unexpected quarters. The popular writer and director Posani Krishna Murali fired back at Mr. and Mrs. Rajasekhar in his usual style. He didn’t give any respect for the couple and used many bad words at them. ‘Chiranjeevi is a great person. If you keep on criticizing him, people feel that you are a fool. Chiranjeevi is a gentleman and hasn’t been reacting against this nonsense. If he gives a signal to answer them, then I will start poking at their personal history and you will see them dumb found or eventually dead’ Posani fired.
When asked if Rajasekhar could stand opposite Chiranjeevi in stature to compete against the latter, Posani ridiculed ‘Are you joking? Didn’t you feel like laughing out loud while posing this question?’
We have to wait and see if Rajasekhar and Jeevita dares to have a go at Posani who is known for speaking anything and of going to any extent when comes to an argument.
