‘Today, Obama in America, tomorrow Chiru in AP’

Filmstars are known for their vanity and politicians for their loudmouthed claims. Superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi is showing a mix of both and the message isn’t exactly going down well with the masses. A big hoarding facing a Secunderabad flyover that greets motorists everyday showcases the Prajarajyam founder ‘mana’ Chiru with the newly sworn-in president of the United States of America, Barack Obama. While one hoarding with pictures of both leaders with their hands raised in a similar manner, states in Telugu, “Today, Obama in America, tomorrow Chiru in Andhra Pradesh’. If this wasn’t presumptuous enough, the next sentence takes the cake ‘People are looking for a change’. Modesty, anyone?

Chiranjeevi claims he is greater than NTR

chiru_ntr1232415971
Drawing a parallel between the legendary Telugu film actor, N.T. Rama Rao and himself, the Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Monday claimed that he had more clout among the people than NTR.

Even though the PR failed to create departments in the party’s state committee due to non-availability of suitable leaders, Chiranjeevi claimed that he broke NTR’s record in constituting party committees.

NTR set up party committees only after he came to power. We have done it before the elections. Leaders in our party are vying with each other for party posts as they are enthusiastic to serve the people. It indicates that the PR has more clout among the people,” Chiranjeevi said while addressing the PR district committees’ convention at the Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on Monday. Chiranjeevi asked his cadre to constitute booth level committees and village level committees as it is crucial to transform public response into votes in the ensuing elections.

However, the PR chief failed to clarify queries posed by party leaders on how the PR will bring about change and how it will be different from other parties. He also did not clarify how the PR will uplfit the downtrodden.

Praja Rajyam Party gains some, lose some

Praja Rajyam Party leadership might have been in high spirits with the joining of two Telugu Desam MLAs – Kala Venkat Rao and Kambala Jogulu and is expecting to get stronger in north coastal Andhra, but their entry has also led to strong dissidence within the party.

Sources say PRP’s gain of leaders also amounts to loss of cadres in north coastal Andhra. This was evident form the exit of Jhansi, daughter of freedom fighter Goutu Latchanna. She resigned from the party, alleging that there was no social justice in the party as being claimed by party president Chiranjeevi. Jhansi, a strong BC leader and wife of former IAS officer R Ramakrishnaih and sister of TD MLA Goutu Shyama Sundara Sivaji, joined the PRP with high hopes. She wanted to contest from Visakhapatnam, but she was confined to Vizianagaram. Finally, she called it quits and chose a non-existent Lok Satta to mark her career.

The entry of Kala Venkat Rao is also not being taken kindly by Srikakulam MLC Gorla Haribabu Naidu. In fact, he played a major role in establishing PRP in the district, much before former TD minister Tammineni Sitaram joined. He is now sidelined by Tammineni, who got top position in the party. Now that Kala Venkat Rao also entered the scene and is all set to get to the top, Haribabu Naidu is frustrated. He did not attend Kala’s joining ceremony. He is likely to jump into the Telugu Desam.

Similarly in Visakhapatnam, the second-rung PRP cadres are not taking it kindly the influence being wielded by former TD MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who ensured that all the district committees are filled with his own people. Because of Ganta’s overaction, several PRP workers are planning to get back either into the Congress or TD.

The exit of BC leader V G R Naragoni also has led to several BC leaders deserting the PRP in north coastal Andhra. None of Naragoni’s followers could find a place in the district committees in Visakhapatnam, while prominent businessmen got the top slots. As a result, several important leaders are planning to call it quits to the PRP.

Clean chit to corrupt officials by CM, alleges Prajarajyam Party head Chiranjeevi.

Sangareddy, Zaheerabad, Patancheru, Jinaram: They are siphoning off hundreds of crores, and still give clean chit to them stating that they are good people. They are not conducting any enquiries. They themselves act as judges and give clean chit to these corrupt officials. “Can an ordinary employee earn 100 crores without the support of MLAs and Ministers?” questioned Mr. Chiranjeevi. Mr. Suryanarayana was caught by ACB 4 years back and yet he could manage to earn 200 crores assets, how this possible questioned Mr. Chiranjeevi. On Monday Mr. Chiranjeevi addressed public gatherings at Sangareddy, Zaheerabad, Patancheru and Jinaram located in Medak district. Mr. Chiranjeevi alleged that CM is giving a clean chit to his close associate who was involved in DEP scam. In case of ‘sand scam’ they are only acting as judges and giving judgments lambasted Mr. Chiranjeevi. He says that public issues are not discussed in the assembly sessions. The ruling and opposition parties are making counter charges of corruption against each other. The ruling party is not showing any guts and denying these allegations and is not daring to hold enquiries, opines Mr. Chiranjeevi. Mr. Chiranjeevi expressed his unhappiness over the behavior of both the ruling party as well as opposition. He told that Praja Rajyam is emerging as third front in the state and this is creating panic in ruling and opposition parties.

Is this in benefit of Farmers?

The government says that it is pro farmer government but what it has done for the benefit of farmers, he questioned. Previously he told that paddy cultivation used to take place in Medak District but now the farmers are becoming mechanics due to the free power supply to the farmers by the government as their motors are getting burnt and transformers are getting damaged. To repair them the farmers are acting as mechanics by using nuts and blots and screw drivers, says Mr. Chiranjeevi. In the process of repairing these damaged equipments the farmers are getting subjected to electric shocks and getting killed. By seeing all this he told that one could understand that government is treating farmer’s life very cheaply.

Patancheru will be made pollution free:

He told that if Praja Rajyam Party is voted to power they would make Patancheru area pollution free by taking appropriate and adequate steps to check the pollution. He visited a local Hanuman Temple and offered his prayers.

My father is not CM, says Mr. Chiranjeevi:

I have to look at the time while speaking to you all, says Mr. Chiranjeevi. They are implying many rules in my case. I went to Nalgonda meeting 10 minutes late. I wanted to explain to the people why I came late. I pleaded with the police but all my requests went vain, says Mr. Chiranjeevi.

A police case filed against CM’s son-in-law

Suryapet, Nalgonda District: Nalgonda police filed a case against CM’s son-in-law Mr. Anilkumar for addressing a meeting after night 10 pm held in Suryapet on Sunday. On Sunday afternoon a case was booked against Mr. Chiranjeevi, founder of PRP for addressing a public meeting even after 10 pm on Saturday night. But in the case of CM’s son-in-law meeting, no case was booked by the police. So on Monday some PRP leaders protested against this incident in a Gandhian Method by presenting flower bouquets to the District SP. The police officials acted immediately as this may trigger a political turmoil in the state. The police officials after consulting the higher officials in Hyderabad booked a case against CM’s son-in-law after getting permission from them. Mr. Anilkumar addressed the meeting till 11:30 pm on Sunday without any obstacles. As there was a violation of time rule a case was booked against him along with persons who supplied him mikes, electrical equipment, and the program in-charge. In case of Praja Rajyam Party a case was booked against its founder Mr. Chiranjeevi as well as party leaders who participated in the meeting.

Chiranjeevi Seema kadapa yatra

Death seems to be shadowing the Praja Ankita Yatra of Praja Rajyam party (PRP) chief Chiranjeevi, as one more fan died on the last leg of yatra in the district today.

P Brahamiah (25) from Peddaneni Kaluva Dalitwada in Tsundupalle mandal, along with six of his friends, was on his way to Kadapa for participating in the Chiranjeevi road show when their Tata Sumo Vehicle met with an accident at Pallanagarpalle in Ramapuram mandal. A speeding lorry collided head-on with it, resulting in the instantaneous death of Brahamaiah.

His six friends and the Sumo driver were seriously injured in the mishap and were shifted to the Rayachoti Government Hospital.

With the condition of Ramachandra (30) and Yerraiah (25) worsening, they were shifted to SVR Ruia Hospital in Tirupati where their condition is reported to be critical. The others, including driver Penchalaiah, are undergoing treatment at Rayachoti. There were three deaths and injuries to ten others during the three-day Yatra in the district.

As for the Yatra itself, it evoked overwhelming response with thousands of Chiranjeevi’s fans and supporters turning up in large numbers at his road shows. People lined up the road on both sides for about 8 km from Bhakrapeta to Ontimitta, while his fans were seen showering two truckloads of flowers on him all along.

Earlier, Chiranjeevi visited Pedda Dargha (Ameen Peer Dargha) and offered prayers there. He spent nearly one hour in the shrine and was explained its significance by Dargah Committee secretary Anwar. Later, he offered prayers at Pastoral House and was blessed by the bishop. He stayed there for the night.

Handloom weavers presented him with a saree, asking him to give it to his mother.

Moved by the gesture, Chiranjeevi said that Madhavarm was as famous as Dharmavarm and it was an honour for him to receive a saree from the Madhavaram weavers. He assured them that once he came to power, he would make it a priority to address the problems of weavers.

On reaching Tallapaka, passing Ontimitta and Nandalur on his way, he said that he was really thrilled to be standing on the land where saint-poet Tallapaka Annamacharya had lived once. His speeches at Rajampeta and Kodur had an emotional tinge.

District Congress leaders, however, belittled the public response, saying the crowds turned out just to see their favourite star. DCC president K Suresh Babu said the people of Kadapa viewed him as a flim personality rather than a political leader.

Kamalapuram MLA G Veera Siva Reddy wondered how the PRP chief would eradicate factionism while himself being accompanied by known factionists Bhuma Nagi Reddy and MV Ramana Reddy.
