VIJAYAWADA: Describing the ‘high voter turnout’ in the first phase of election as a ‘silent vote’ for his party, Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Thursday asserted that the people would repeat the same in the second phase and give complete support to the party. A significant number of women and youth turned out for voting in the first phase and this was an indication of the ‘silent revolution’ in favour of the Praja Rajyam, he claimed.
Mr. Chiranjeevi addressed a series of meetings in Krishna district, beginning at Vuyyuru and ending in the city. He addressed large crowds at Kankipadu and Penamaluru before entering the city. From the first meeting he addressed at NTR Circle at Patamata to the last one at Ajit Singh Nagar before the end of campaign hour (10 a.m.), the response was overwhelming. People of all age groups and sections turned up for the roadshow and the NH-9 up to Benz Circle and NH-5 towards Krishnalanka teemed with all of them.
At NTR Circle, Mr. Chiranjeevi said he was just sharing the ‘latest information’ available to him about the indications from the first phase of polling.
Asserting that there was good response in Telangana, Mr. Chiranjeevi expressed confidence that the Praja Rajyam would get more seats ultimately and this victory would go to the people alone. He announced to a thunderous applause from the crowd that this would, indeed, be a real change.
Waving at the crowds all through, Mr. Chiranjeevi cheered and accepted garlands from his followers and sympathisers. “This is really a huge crowd. There was no such crowd on the road when the Chief Minister passed this way two days ago,” said an onlooker.
Hits out at Naidu
Devoting most part of his speech to criticising the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Mr. Chiranjeevi said he entered the cinema field as a lonely person but went on to become “No. 1” and stayed there for many years, which was proof of his ability to become an efficient leader.
He charged TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu with resorting to “cheap tactics” for the sake of coming back to power.
Mr. Chiranjeevi took a dig at the Congress for not doing anything to enhance the health and educational opportunities for the poor people. The Congress only worked for the rich and never for the poor. He asked as to why the poor people should vote for the Congress when its government went about giving ports, lands and industries for its favoured persons.
