KCR tries to mollify Vijayashanti

vijahanti1
HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao met film actor Vijayashanti at her residence here on Saturday evening in an apparent bid to mollify her as she was reportedly unhappy with the constituency offered to her by the party for contesting in the elections.

He drove to Ms. Vijayashanti’s house in Jubilee Hills minutes after she told a large delegation of the party that she was unsure whether she would contest the polls at all. She wished the party well and said that all those who approached her should win the election.

The delegation tried to persuade her to contest for Malkajgiri parliamentary seat, but she gave no commitment. Mr. Rao had, a few days ago, announced at a party meeting that either Ms. Vijayashanti or he would enter the fray from Medak parliamentary constituency, considered safer than Malkajgiri.

Asked for his response after the two-hour meeting, Mr. Rao counselled reporters not to put out stories that were damaging.

He said the list of TRS candidates would be announced on Sunday or Monday morning. The delegation that went to Ms. Vijayashanti was led by senior party leader T. Sudarshan Rao. He urged her to take the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat as her glamour would not only ensure her own victory, but also that of the party candidates from the Assembly segments in that constituency.

The candidates aspiring for tickets in these segments had a selfish interest in requesting her to contest from Malkajgiri.

The leaders said she need not sweat it out to win. They would toil hard to ensure her victory.

Jr NTR: ‘Chiru Said CBN Becomes PM’

ntrpoli1237793544

Jr NTR has been using logic and digging history to convince the people those are attending his road shows. Freshly he recalled a statement given by Chiranjeevi on Chandrababu in the year 2002.

“While NTR brought glory to ‘Teluguvaadi Atmagouravam’ in National Level, it is Nara Chandrababu Naidu who took the pride of Telugu to international level with his hitec ideas. I’m not saying this. The new leader who started a party with the buzz word ‘maarpu’ said this long back in a film Function held at Vijayawada (Indra). On that occasion that film star turned politician said that Chandrababu is the best CM and he has the caliber to become Prime Minister as well”, said Jr NTR at Bikkavolu road show of East Godavari today.

The response from PRP would obviously be silent. But still let us see if there will be any response.

Congress drops K, K candidates for TD and PRP

chiru-ysr-nara1

The Congress leadership seems to have taken serious look into the social background of every candidate in its selection for the Assembly and Lok Sabha seats. The party leadership is understood to have considered the social combinations and tried to accommodate those who have been with the party rather than giving representation to the castes that are with the rival parties. In this connection, the Congress had cut the size of the Kammas and the Kapus, who are mostly with the Telugu Desam and Praja Rajyam Party, while keeping intact the other castes.

The party had cleared names for all 42 Lok Sabha seats, while it had kept four Assembly seats in abeyance, names for 290 seats were cleared. The Congress had named 87 Reddy candidates, which was 75 in the 2004 elections, while it had brought down the Kamma representation to 16 from 26 in the last elections. The Kapus too were cut to size in the Congress list as only 15 candidates were given ticket against 24 in 2004 elections.

Among the other upper castes, the Congress had reduced the Kshatriyas from 9 in the previous elections to 7 now, while the number of Vysyas has increased to 4 this time against 3 in the last elections, followed by Velamas whose number had gone up to 8 from 5 in the last elections and Brahmins to 4 from 2 previous elections.

The BCs number had considerably gone up this time by 26 seats this time with 66 BC candidates getting tickets against 43 in the 2004 elections. The Yadava community got the highest number of 11 seats against 4 in 2004, followed by Munnuru Kapus whose number had gone up to 9 against 3, Gowdas to 7 against 2, Mudiraj to 6 against 1 and Padmasali to 4 against 3. The fishermen who could not find place in the 2004 elections, were now given the party ticket in three places. Among other BCs, Kalinga and Boya were also given due representation.

In the Scheduled Castes, the Congress had given representation to 6 each to Lambada and Koya sub-sects and 7 seats to the other small ST castes, which, the party feels would help in getting the small sects moved in favour of the party. The Minorities too have walked with lion’s share as the party had named 16 candidates this time against just 8 in the last elections.

The party had also tried to maintain balance between the two warring SC groups of Malas and Madigas by giving them equal representation. However, the party had failed to recognize the other sub-sects in the SC lists.

It is now to be seen how this caste combination works for the Congress in facing the united Opposition and filmy Praja Rajyam Party.

Match begins; Who is the winner?

ysr_chen_chiru1237778863

The election process has been set in motion. With the issuance of poll notification on Monday, tension has started mounting up in all political parties. Compared to all the other parties, the Congress is sitting pretty by announcing the list of candidates well in advance and Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy is oozing confidence over the Congress party’s victory in the elections.

The Chief Minister gave a series of interviews to the media on Sunday and happily posed for photographs. Among the three major Telugu dailies, Andhra Jyothy gave a positive headline for YSR, stating that the people’s verdict would be in favour of the Congress. Eenadu carried the interview in its election special page, stating that corruption would not be an issue in the elections, as no allegation of corruption was proved. Sakshi, however, used the interview to attack the Telugu Desam, saying that Naidu was giving impracticable “all free” promises, knowing fully well that he would not come to power.

On the other hand, the Opposition parties, particularly the Telugu Desam is in disarray, as there is no progress in the seat sharing talks among partners of Mahakootami. As regards Praja Rajyam, the first list might be released on Monday, but it is still groping in the dark about its election symbol. Sakshi suspects it to be a clever strategy on the part of Telangana Rashtra Samithi to prevent dissidence within the party. Eenadu made it a big banner, stating that the Telugu Desam and TRS were adamant on their seats and that KCR had fixed a deadline till Monday afternoon.

The appointment of A K Mohanty as new DGP, demise of yesteryears’ hero T L Kantha Rao, death of four Andhra students in the USA, decision of IPL to shift the cricket matches to foreign land and disqualification of Varun Gandhi by the Election Commission are the other important developments that were carried in brief on the front pages of the dailies.

‘Congress has given folks loathing for politics’

jnr_ntr_207313816
ANAKAPALLE: “People in the State have acquired a deep aversion to politics, repelled by the irregularities and corruption under the Congress dispensation,’’ declaimed Telugu Desam star campaingner NTR Jr.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at Sunkarametta and Gavarapalem junctions here Thursday, the actor said the people, particularly the poor and the farmers, were thoroughly disillusioned with the Congress party leaders.

The deaths of 6000 farmers, the exorbitant price of rice and graft in irrigation projects and in Indiramma housing spoke volumes of the state of affairs, he said.

Not mentioning any leader by name, the 26-year-old swore that the TDP would be different from all the parties that had vowed to dedicate themselves to the welfare of the people — it would actually deliver on its promises.

“And if the TDP wins, I will surely fulfil your wish — to see me slap my thighs and twirl my moustaches at the Anakapalle Centre,’’ he said and exhorted the people to mark its vote for the cycle.

Addressing the mammoth crowd at the junction near Dadi Veerabhadra Rao’s residence, he reeled out the criticisms he has been making all along on the tour: the degeneration of “Annapoorna’’ Andhra Pradesh to “Avineeti Andhra Pradesh’’ and the impact on the poor of the high price of rice. If the Congress were returned to power, the price of the staple could well triple, he said.

The actor was accompanied by party leaders Bandaru Satyanarayana, Dadi Veerabhadra Rao and his son Dadi Ratnakara Rao.

Rs 2.8 Cr Link To PRP Jubilee Hills Ticket

prajarajyam-flag
Humayun is a not so renowned name in the state but he was given Jubilee Hills Assembly ticket from PRP. Then why he is given the ticket and who is he? He is a small businessman who supplies sound systems for party meetings and also for film shootings. He is better known with the sound system supplying company Taher. He has supplied huge systems for PRP meetings where the party owes him Rs2.8 Cr. And no one is willing to pay that bill for Humayun. Hence in waive of that he was lured and given party ticket. The PRP groups also know that it is difficult to contest from Jubilee Hills and defeat P Vishnuvardhan Reddy, the son of Late P Janardana Reddy. Hence the ticket was thrown away for him. Adding to all this Humayun has to supply sound systems for free till the time of elections apart from spending from his own pocket. That’s the business motive of PRP, say sources.

Chiru blames YSR-“sending suitcases filled with currency”

chiranjeevi_ysr2
GUDIVADA (Krishna district): Hitting out at the Congress Government at the several meetings he addressed in Gudivada constituency on Thursday, the third and final day of the first phase of roadshows in Krishna district, Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi alleged that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was “sending suitcases filled with currency” to his party leadership in New Delhi to win a pat from them.

The day’s roadshows began at Ballapadu village and passed through Kalingapeta, Nandiwada, Gudivada and Gudlavalleru.

At the meetings as well as the press conference he addressed earlier, Mr. Chiranjeevi sought to draw a parallel between TDP founder N. T. Rama Rao, who represented the constituency in the Assembly, and himself. He, however, evaded a direct reply when asked whether he would fill up the gap created by NTR’s demise. Mr. Chiranjeevi merely said that it was a coincidence that the ideology of NTR and his own was one and the same. “Gudivada gave a new dimension to politics in the State, let’s repeat the history,” he said. Raavi Venkateswara Rao, the party candidate from the constituency, accompanied him throughout.

Though there was poor response to the meetings he addressed in the interior areas of Gudivada constituency, the crowds swelled as he reached the town, where a massive gathering waited for him.

Even while criticising the government’s programmes and the alleged corruption in execution of Jalayagnam, Mr. Chiranjeevi reiterated his party’s promises to farmers, middle class, students and women.

He asserted that thousands of crores of rupees had been spent on irrigation projects but without a vision. There were many districts and places in the State, including Gudivada, that had scarcity of drinking water. “You are surrounded by water, but the government has failed to quench your thirst. What’s the use of Jalayagnam?” he questioned.

Mr. Chiranjeevi also blamed the Rajasekhara Reddy Government for not being to utilise natural resources available in the State. While the Gujarat government was reaping the benefits of natural gas available here, the State government remained a mute spectator. The Praja Rajyam would seriously look into this and supply cooking gas at just Rs.100 a refill.

The matinee idol-turned-politician hit out at the government on the issue of price rise and “failure to ensure minimum support price of Rs.1,000 a quintal to paddy”.

Reacting to the criticism that the Praja Rajyam would wind up welfare schemes if voted to power, Mr. Chiranjeevi asserted that welfare schemes would be continued more energetically until there were no hunger deaths. But corruption in welfare schemes would be checked and loopholes plugged to better the lives of the poor and the downtrodden.
