Chiranjeevi mask to carry out a key task

If at a public meeting of the Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi, you encounter hundreds, if not thousands of ‘Chiranjeevis’ huddled in a particular corner, don’t be surprised. That’s how the PR is trying to draw attention to its president. In the race to be one up during campaign for the ensuing elections, they have gone in for what is considered a first in Andhra Pradesh — masks of the party president, made of soft, non-toxic latex which is the same material used to make soft toys. Moving Pixels, an Ahmedabad-based company, has been entrusted the task of making the masks and the first batch was delivered to the party on the same day as Mr. Chiranjeevi’s public meeting in Rajahmundry, two days ago. Manish Bardia, CEO, Moving Pixels, said as far as India was concerned, Mr. Chiranjeevi was the second after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to use the masks. As for the masks themselves, they were also the first realistic ones that did not use caricatures as the base. “We took extensive 360 degree and grid photographs, did 360 degree profiling and took 85 measurements from different angles, after which we prepared plaster moulds. The first mould took us 15 days. The second and final one took almost a month and has been accepted in toto,” he said. Minimal use Interestingly, masks of former British Prime Minister, American presidents like Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagon and more recently, those of Barack Obama have been used primarily for Halloween parties, apart from minimal use during elections. “We expect widespread use of the masks during Mr. Chiranjeevi’s election campaign,” Mr. Bardia said. Hundreds of ‘Chiranjeevis’ will be present at public meetings of Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi

NTR Jr. kicks off campaign for TDP

13
SRIKAKULAM: Film actor NTR Jr. kicked off his first-ever political campaign at Ichapuram on the Orissa-Andhra Pradesh border on Thursday, flaying the Congress for its role in institutionalising corruption in the State. He said that the welfare schemes and developmental projects were used as avenues for indulging in large-scale corruption in the State.

Addressing a series of meetings in Ichapuram town, Dasannapeta junction, Kanchili and Haripuram on the first leg of his three-day blitzkrieg which took him on a 100 km journey on Thursday, NTR Jr. said that the fruits of every welfare scheme reached only vested interests and only one-tenth of the benefits reached the targeted beneficiaries.

Expresses solidarity
The young NTR, who was clad in a khaki shirt and trousers, said that he was not trying to imitate his grandfather but had taken to khaki to express his solidarity with the working class and the common man in the State. “I do not know the Sri Rama in the epics but I know of only one Rama who brought a sea change in the State and national political scenario. He identified himself with the poor and the helpless and was synonymous with Telugu pride and culture,” he said amid applause.

The actor arrived three hours behind schedule by a special helicopter at the specially erected helipad in Ichapuram. Immediately after his arrival, he climbed atop his “Chaitanya Ratham” and apologised to the people for inconveniencing them.

He was received with enthusiasm by the milling crowds.

Rallying point

He recalled the days when Telugus were insulted by national leaders from Delhi and the days when Telugu-speaking people had no identity, except being known as “Madrasees.”

He said that everything that the late NTR did had won acclaim and recognition and he had become a rallying point for the national Opposition leaders.

“I have not come to ask for votes but to brush up your memories of the great leader and to strengthen the party founded by him and the legacy he left. Chandrababu Naidu is today strengthening his legacy and continuing all that was started by the founder-president of the TDP, NTR Jr. said.

TDP Parliamentary Party leader K.Yerran Naidu and TD district president Gouthu Shyam Sunder Shivaji were among those who accompanied him.

PRP seeks white paper on irrigation projects

Praja Rajyam has pooh-poohed the YSR government’s claim of providing irrigation water to 14 lakh acres in the State and wanted the Congress to come out with a white paper. While the party had promised in its 2004 election manifesto to irrigate 1 crore acres, it announced in the recent development campaign to have irrigated 14 lakh acres. “In reality, the government failed to provide an additional ayacut of even 14,000 acres. If so, we demand the Congress to release a white paper showing the projects through which water was released, the region-wise and district-wise break-up of crops sown with the additional water and the yield thus accrued to farmers,” PR State coordinating secretary (Farm Affairs), Myna Swamy, told reporters here on Thursday. Even as the farm sector continued to reel under crisis, the government unabashedly painted a rosy picture, ignoring the reports submitted by the committees headed by Jayati Ghosh and M.S. Swaminathan. He wanted that the reports be made public and the recommendations implemented. Flaying the Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy regime for failing to provide power even four hours a day to the farmers, PR promised to give quality power for ten hours.

Chiru blames Congress for communal riots

chiranjeevi-party2
HYDERABAD: In a frontal attack on Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Praja Rajyam (PR) president K. Chiranjeevi wondered what people like those who had ‘engineered’ communal riots in the State capital could do to help improve the lot of Muslims.

Addressing a meeting of Muslims at a private function hall in the old city, he recalled former Chief Minister late Marri Chenna Reddy saying that some leaders had triggered riots in the old city to unseat him as Chief Minister. He asked people to consider whether Congress leaders, who could do anything to dethrone a Chief Minister, would ever seriously think of the welfare of the minority community.

Mr. Chiranjeevi regretted that successive governments had treated the Muslim community only as a vote bank. He said the PR, as a secular party, would look after the interests of the minorities and come up with innovative programmes and improved allocation for their development.

Babri Masjid
He accused the Congress of being responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid and pointed a finger at the BJP for the Godhra carnage. By not speaking out against the BJP for the Godhra incidents, the TDP could not also call itself secular. Continuing to attack the BJP, Mr. Chiranjeevi said there was no way his party would ever align with such a party

Mr. Chiranjeevi announced the name of Humayun as the candidate for the newly created Jubilee Hills constituency.

Chiranjeevi’s PRP too prepares to flex movie muscle

Gone are the days when political heavyweights used to deliver power-packed dialogues during poll campaigns while youngsters watched them in awe. It is a total turnaround now with “little masters” ruling the roost much to the displeasure of seniors. When Jr NTR, grandson of the Telugu Desam founder, N.T. Rama Rao, delivers high-voltage dialogues a filmi style, seasoned politicians like, Mr K. Yerrannaidu, simply stand by the side to seek the blessings of the voters. The TD and the Praja Rajyam, which are vying for power in the state, are turning to “generation-next” campaigners to push them to victory. After Jr NTR’s entry into the campaign, the PR is now planning to use its own “little masters” in the canvassing battle. To counter the impact of Jr NTR’s road shows, the PR leadership is thinking about bringing young actors in the PR chief’s family, Mr Ram Charan Teja, son of Chiranjeevi, and Mr Allu Arjun, son of Mr Allu Aravind, for poll campaigning. When scribes asked about the possibility of campaigning by Teja and Arjun, the PR general secretary, Mr Aravind, did not rule it out. “We are thinking over it,” he said. “Earlier, we decided not to use their services as both of them are too young. But, now to muster the support of youngsters, we are thinking about bringing them into the campaign fold.” Sources said, Mr Teja and Arjun would soon tour the state to neutralise the impact of Junior NTR. In fact, Chiranjeevi’s son has already sung a song in the PR’s poll campaign CD to drum up the support of youngsters for the fledgling party.

NTR Jr on 33-day election campaign

jrntr1
Telugu Desam Party‘s trump card in the forthcoming poll campaign, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr on Thursday began his 33-day state tour from Dasannapeta in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh.

Clad in a khaki costume reminiscent of his late grandfather and TDP founder-president N T Rama Rao, the scion of Nandamuri family, reached Itchapuram by helicopter from Visakhapatnam to embark on his election campaign.

“I have not come to seek your votes. But, give a thought to the future of our state and also your own lives a day before the election and cast your vote judiciously,” the angry young man of Telugu celluloid said.

The 25-year-old son of Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Harikrishna recalled how NTR visited every nook and corner of Andhra Pradesh upon launching the TDP in 1982 and travelled 35,000 km to bring about an awareness and enlightenment among people.

“Now every politician in the state is forced to follow in the foot steps of NTR. Such was the impact he left on the state political scene. Not only that, the slew of welfare measures he introduced were unprecedented,” NTR Jr said.

“But the current Congress regime had looted public money through unprecedented corruption. Corruption and only corruption. There is nothing else to write about this government. It claims to be a farmers’ government but 6,000 farmers committed suicide in the last five years,” he said.

“Vote for the TDP and restore a corruption-free rule in the state,” he appealed to the people and wound up his speech with the slogans ‘Jai NTR‘, ‘Jai Telugu Desam‘, ‘Jai Telugu Nadu’ in his grandfather’s style.

Telugu Desam parliamentary party leader K Yerran Naidu, MLA Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao, MLC Revanth Reddy and other leaders accompanied NTR’s grandson.

Secret Behind Jr NTR- Chandrababu Drama

12

Jr NTR has been regularly meeting Chandrababu Naidu from the past few days. The reason behind this is not clearly known yet. But the assumptions are being made in different ways as NTR is not opening his mouth in any form before media. Although he hasn’t come onto the campaigning ground till now, his name is being widely used by TDP. The party has been sending press notes to media stating that NTR is hitting camping on so and so date.

It is not required to meet Chandrababu regularly if it were a mere campaigning issue. But for what NTR is meeting Babu daily? Some say that he is negotiating terms with Chandrababu for the marriage of his father Hari Krishna with his mother Shalini. He feels that it would be the right time to make her mother happy, say sources. It is being said that Jr NTR is rightly playing with the senses of Chandrababu Naidu in this election season.

Some say that he is meeting for procuring tickets for his close associates. Everything is secret with respect to Jr NTR until he opens his mouth.

It has to be underlined that PRP already made a statement that they will make Harikrishna and Shalini unite with marital bond once Jr NTR starts campaigning for TDP.

We have to wait till 12th of this month to know the apparent truth in this matter at least.
