Praja Rajyam president K.Chiranjeevi has said the party will set up training institutes and industries at the village level and provide employment to educated youth.

Addressing a public meeting as part of the ongoing ‘Praja Ankita Yatra’ at the RTC bus stand here on Monday, he alleged that the Congress government was cheating farmers, weavers, women and youth in the State with its corrupt rule. He said only the Praja Rajyam, which was committed to serving the poor, would be able to provide a corruption-free government in the State.

The Congress, which claimed to be a farmer-friendly party, was taking thousands of acres of fertile lands from farmers in the name of irrigation projects and Special Economic Zones and not even providing proper relief and rehabilitation package in any district, he alleged.

“In the name of politics, many political leaders had amassed properties worth crores of rupees. If an officer earned more than Rs 200 crore through illegal means during Congress rule, you can expect how much the MLAs, Ministers and the Chief Minister would have earned,” Mr Chiranjeevi said.

He said the party will strive for ‘grama swarajyam’ which will speed up rural development. The Praja Rajyam will give powers to all the gram panchayats after coming to power and decentralise the system so that the Panchayat Raj bodies can take decisions on their own for developing infrastructure in rural areas.

Rampant corruption

Alleging that the benefits of government schemes were not reaching the beneficiaries due to rampant corruption among political leaders, he called upon the youth to launch an agitation against corruption.

He performed prayers at the Kasumuru Dargah in Venkatachalam mandal in the district and addressed public meetings at Muthukur and Nellore.

Earlier, speaking to newsmen, the party’s official spokesman, P.Mitra, said that the ‘Praja Ankita Yatra’ being organised in the district was receiving good response from the public. The public meetings at Sulluripeta, Venkatagiri and Gudur on Sunday were a success, he said.

The Praja Rajyam Party appears to be reconciled to the fact that it would be next to impossible to get “rising sun” as its election symbol from the Election Commission of India.

Party sources say the party is now asking for either “train” or “lion” as its election symbol for all its candidates in the next elections. Though Election Commission has expressed its inability to allot a common election symbol for the PRP since it is not yet a recognized party, things have changed after party president Chiranjeevi personally went to the EC office in New Delhi and made a strong request, producing all evidences to prove its potential to come to power. The EC is now considering his request, provided there is no objection from any other party for the common symbol.

However, PRP sources wonder which symbol could give a brand image to the party. Some leaders say train would be an appropriate symbol, because it is a common man’s mode of transportation during long distance travels. Secondly, media gave extensive publicity about this “train” symbol, much before Chiranjeevi officially launched his party. So, it would go down well with the people. However, there are others who feel that lion would also be a good symbol, because it symbolizes aggression and royalty. It is the king of all animals, but does not harm smaller creates unlike tiger. This symbol can be attractively used during the campaign, they say.

Slated to be a hot oven for caste politics and groups, Vijayawada has often got the tag of being the hub for major political activity and even murders. No one can forget the murder of Vangaveeti Mohanaranga few years ago duo to these group hatreds.

Now, one man who is known to sleep with controversy all times is all set to take up a project on Vijayawada politics. He is none other than the genius film maker Ramgopal Varma. Apparently, Ramu has enough landmines in his pocket since he is said to be making films on Paritala Ravi with ‘Rakta Charitra’ followed by another one on Mumbai terror attacks.

It is now being said that Ramu is keen on coming out with a flick on Vijayawada politics and given the fact that he has spent quite sometime in that town it is without doubt that he has full feel of the political heat out there. The mystery is whether he would want to do a flick on Vangaveeti Ranga or the current situations that is to be found out.

The city boiled once again on Friday, after more than two decades, as MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna’s men beat up the Congress leaders and followers of slain Congress MLA, Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao, on his death anniversary.

Radhakrishna’s men chased the Congress leaders, including senior Congress leader and Ranga’s loyalist Malladi Vishnu. They also beat up the supporters of Vishnu and hurled soda bottles at them injuring one person. The melee had spread to the busy Besant Road, where the traders have downed the shutters fearing riot. The Governorpet area is in tension now as the police arrested Congress leaders, include Vishnu, the party floor leader in Municipal Corporation, Kunuku Raja Sekhar and a few others.

Radhakrishna, a Congress MLA from Vijayawada East, switched over his loyalties to the Praja Rajyam Party last week and challenged the Congress men to observe his father’s death anniversary. The angry young MLA garlanded the statue of Ranga on M G Road and went on to Krishna Lanka area to participate in several prorgammes organized on the occasion.

A few minutes later Vishnu, senior Congress leaders, Kolanukonda Sivaji, Adapa Nagendra and Badita Shankar, reached the venue and garlanded the statue. They also tied the Congress’ tricolour cloth around Ranga.

Ranga’s widow and former MLA, Rathna Kumari, who was watching the Congress men garlanding her husband’s statue alerted her son, Radhakrishna, who rushed to the spot along with his supporters. Both Rathnakumari and Radhakrishna removed the Congress cloth and chased the Congressmen. The angry PRP workers also hurled sticks at the vehicles of the Congress leaders as both Radhakrishna and Rathnakumari hurled abuses at the Congress leaders.

The Radhakrishna’s supporters chased the Congress workers in the lanes of Besant Road hurling soda bottles. In the melee, a Youth Congress worker, Koppisetti Durga Rao, received bleeding injuries.

Recovering from the shock, the Congress leaders held a protest at Besant Road, who were immediately removed by the police. The police provided security in the entire Governorpet area to prevent untoward incidents.

The irony is that it was Malladi Vishnu who installed the bronze statue of Ranga, when Rathnakumari and Radhakrishna did not take interest in that. In fact, Vishnu had been rallying a good number of Ranga’s followers and had saved several of Ranga’s loyalists from the TD’s onslaught in 1990s.

On Friday Mr. Paleti Ramarao, Ex-minister, TDP Leader joined Prajarajyam Party in presence of its founder Mr. Chiranjeevi. While speaking on the occasion Mr. Chiranjeevi expressed that by joining of an experienced and honest leader like Mr. Paleti Ramarao is an auspicious sign to his party. Mr. Paleti Ramarao speaking on the occasion hoped that social justice would prevail in PRP. He says he would not like to damage TDP by supporting any one group by remaining in that party. He told that Congress Party is infested with corruption and the people of the state do not believe TDP and that’s why people are showing affiliation towards PRP and extending their support to it. Another leader Mr. Vamma Subha Rao of Dharshi constituency belonging to the same district as of Mr. Paleti Ramarao also joined PRP.

Mr. Paleti may be nominated as District Convener: There is a discussion going on in the party circles that Mr. Paleti Ramarao may be selected as Prakasham district convener for PRP. The party circles in PRP are also thinking that he may be the candidate for Ongole Loksabha seat as he belongs to a powerful social section in his district.

Mr. Chiranjeevi, Founder of Prajarajyam Party, questioned the slogan of development raised by the Rajashekhar Reddy’s government. Chiranjeevi made strong comments on the development message often given by the government. Chiranjeevi says women living in rural areas are facing lot of hardships to attend nature’s calls, as they do not have proper toilet facilities. Chiranjeevi questioned the government whether this can we termed development, which boosts that it is spending thousand of crores for the all round development of the state. Chiranjeevi lambasted the government regarding the medical facilities that exist in government hospitals throughout the state. Chiranjeevi told that on Friday he read a news article, which stated that a pregnant woman suffering from labor pains was forcefully sent out of the government hospital and she went to a nearby burial ground where she gave birth to a child. Chiranjeevi says such incidents reflect that our people representatives and politicians have become insensitive towards the problems faced by the common man. Chiranjeevi told that government should be ashamed of this incident as it boosts very great about the developmental activities it is undertaking for the benefit of the people. Chiranjeevi told that the government, which trumpets about getting one lakh crores as budget from union government does not care about the problems faced by the rural women. Chiranjeevi says the food served in social welfare hostels is infested with worms and the students who are eating such food are becoming victims of ill health. Chiranjeevi told all these irregularities are happening because the government machinery lacks commitment. Chiranjeevi told the recent pulse polio program conducted by the government also involves irregularities, as 100 children got ill after taking the vaccination. Chiranjeevi says he can give 100s of such examples showing the inefficiency and incapability of the government. Chiranjeevi told such corrupt practices and inefficient works will not occur if his party is voted to power in the coming assembly elections. Chiranjeevi also alleged that government is force-ably taking away agricultural lands from the farmers in the name of creating SEZs to do favors to big industrial houses. Chiranjeevi specially referred about ‘Obalapuram Mines’ leasing issue, were he alleged that the private contractors who are handling the operations of these mines are earning 2 to 3 crores per day and paying a royalty amount of Rs. 50 to the government. In this way Chiranjeevi told that the contractors are earning about Rs. 1,750 crores of income in a year and this amount is a good enough budget to run primary health care centers with all facilities throughout our state.
