With the election season coming closer the fever is reaching new temperatures and keeping that in mind, there are many media channels who are trying to make the most of the circumstances.

The best bet among that would be to conduct the pre-poll surveys. Something like that was said to be conducted by the famous CNN-IBN channel and since the tables at Andhra Pradesh seem more complicated this time, the focus was more on who has the strongest chances of making it to power for another term.

It is said that as per their latest survey reports, the Congress party stands first with a massive 45% share of seats while the Maha Kootami is said to be having around 30%, they are followed by BJP who are said to be sharing about 9% and the last spot on the table has been taken by the Praja Rajyam Party – 7.

If these figures are to be taken into consideration then it means that the Chiranjeevi Tsunami is nothing but tap water. Meanwhile, there is news that the Congress folks have been celebrating looking at these figures and on the other hand, Chiru was said to have given a statement that these figures are old and it was before PRP actually started its movement.

However, Chiru did not deny the aspect that the figures were fabricated or something like that. Usually, the CNN-IBN folks are spot on with their work so it remains to be seen whether those not in the first slot would push the gas to increase their ratings among the public and turn the tables or not.

This is going to get more and more interesting until the D-day arrives.

Megastar Chiranjeevi who has been working hard ever since he moved away from his glamorous life as a film hero to a debutante politician has now begun his new phase of the ‘Praja Ankitha’ Yatra. However, this time he was in for few surprises as compared to his earlier phases of yatra.

Apparently, the huge gatherings that came in for his meetings or road shows were predominantly present to have a glimpse of the star who has always been the demigod of the silver screen. But this time, Chiru got to taste some reality bites and there were mixed reactions from various sections of the gathering.

All this happened at the Done town in Kurnool district and the risky side of it was the presence of young teenagers aged between 12-15 who flocked to see their favorite star and there were those who were said to be doing some exceedingly risky stunts on their bikes and cycles just to welcome their star. It is heard that public were waiting for hours together until Chiru arrived at late afternoon and surprisingly, the presence of few Telugu Desam and Congress members was also found to be noted during the congregation.

Incidentally, it was being reported from many of them that they were here just to check out megastar and it had no political affinity involved in it. Now, here is the interesting bit. When the ladies were asked whether any change was expected by them, they were candid enough in saying that whoever comes to power will just enjoy it and go without doing anything for the people. They also are believed to have put Chiru in a dilemma of sorts when they mentioned that they have not made up their mind as to who would be their preferred candidate this time.

The thing that stumped Chiru the most was when a section of the women said to have made it clear that they are not going to vote for strangers and those who are not known in politics. Also, they also gave an indication that there were few leaders who did something for them so most likely the votes would be going in their favor.

The soothing relief was said to be given to Chiru when few women from the SC colony stated to have mentioned that since he is a newcomer they might consider trying him for once. They also let out their frustrations that many officials had come up with big promises of loans and financial assistance but till date nothing has reached their hands. So giving chance to a newcomer would be more of a lesson to the existing ones they expressed.

Given the above experience that Chiru has gone through, it could well be that he surely understands the pulse of the people and if he is really looking at making his mark and get power into the political system of our state then he must have realized that the work needs to be done from the grass root level. Now, whether he can live up to that sort of challenge and really prove to his critics and the others that he has come indeed to do public service only and not with any political motives behind it then he should be aware that the people are watching his every move, word and action. So he better live up to that image in real life that he has always been projecting in the reel life.

Dhone (Kurnool): Upon seeing the sea of humanity at Dhone, which turned out to welcome their matinee idol, Chiranjeevi had only one thing to say: “I want to kiss the sacred soil of Rayalaseema,” evoking a large round of applause. The Prajarajyam Party supremo, who began his five-day Praja Ankita Yatra in Kurnool district on Wednesday, was in his elements as he became sentimental on seeing the massive crowd and uttered a few dialogues from his hit movie ‘Indra.’ Amidst loud cheerings and sloganshouting, Chiranjeevi said chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and his son Jagan Mohan Reddy have amassed thousands of crores of money. He lambasted both the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party for turning politics into a profitable entreprise. “Our party is like a white paper. For us, the sufferings of the people are the party manifesto,” he thundered. He assured that the PRP would bring back the lost glory of state politics and turn the Assembly into a temple. With a large section of youth, women and Muslim minorities attending his roadshows, the PRP chief kept doling out promises to them.Earlier, in three separate incidents, seven fans of Chiranjeevi sustained injuries during the roadshows when PRP volunteers used mild force to curtail the surging crowd from rushing towards Chiru’s convoy. It was a spectacle as nearly 20,000 Chiranjeevi fans welcomed him by wearing masks that carried their star’s photograph.

After winding up the Dhone roadshow, Chiru went on to address roadshows at Rangapuram, Bethamcherla, Banganapalle and Koilakuntla. He halted for the night at Allagadda. Meanwhile, the district PRP leaders are geared up to make the yatra a grand success and ensure maximum turnout for his roadshows. It is learnt that district PRP convenor Bhuma Nagi Reddy has made arrangents to shower flowers on Chiru from a chopper at Allagadda. Chiru would tour all the 14 constituencies in the district. During the yatra, he is set to announce candidates for three assembly constituencies — Shobha Nagi Reddy from Allagadda, A V Subba Reddy (Nandyal) and D Vishnuvardhan Reddy, who recently joined PRP from Congress, from Panyam seat. He is also set to announce the candidature of Bhuma Nagi Reddy from Nandyal Lok Sabha seat. He would conclude his yatra at Yemminganur on February 22 with a public meeting.

Finally, Chiranjeevi has emerged confident to tackle the murky world of politics in his own style. “I can handle it,” he says in a frank and free interview aired on HMTV news channel on Monday night.

Asked if he felt uncomfortable in politics when compared to his film life, Chiru quickly clarified that the cinema world is never that shining and wonderful as it appears to be to the outside world. “Films give us psychological pressure and stress. There would be anxiety whether a film becomes a hit or not. So problems are in both fields,”he said.

However, Chiru hastened to add that mud-slinging and lowly criticism would not be there in cinema field as it is like in politics. He sounded confident saying that as he was moving closer to poeople, they were appearing like a protective shield against any rival criticism.

Chiru appeared really perturbed at the egg attack on his road show at Karimanagar, which shocked him for a while. But he took it easy and then he realised that “the war has started.”

Chiru was optimistic that his party would do extremely well in Telangana just as his films were always huge crowd pullers in Nizam area. He was answering this in reply to a question whether TDP-TRS-Left Grand Alliance would destroy Praja Rajya chances in Telangana. He stressed the point that his films made better collections in Nizam than any other place and the same would prove right in his political career.

Chiru said that the response to his road shows was equally overwhelming in all the three regions – Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema. He referred to some TV channel reports about huge response to his road show in Nizamabad and how his party might emerge stronger to bag majority seats in that district.

Chiru clarified that more than 50 per cent of party nominees in elections would constitute youth and the number might touch 75 per cent if those nearing middle age would also be taken into consideration. “Above all, our party’s youthful look will be retained.

Whoever is active and dynamic will be given a choice. Aged leaders like Upendra, Shivashankar and Harirama Jogaiah are not keen to contest,” he added.

One is desperate to prevent his political oblivion and the other jittery over his political debut. Inconcerted moves by a veteran politician and a novice, a behind-the-scenes attempt is on to bring about an unlikely alliance of the Prajarajyam and the Nava Telangana Party with the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state. While officially the three parties are denying any such move, sources in the PRP and NTP said Chiranjeevi has deputed T Devender Goud to woo the BJP into striking a poll alliance or at least a seat adjustment. “To take on thetwo major forces in the state — the ruling Congress and the TDP-TRS-Left combine — Chiranjeevi has directed Devender Goud to explore some sort of arrangement with the BJP,” sources told the TOI. It was Devender Goud who had negotiated with the BJP on behalf of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu after the general elections in 1998 to forge an alliance, which lasted for five years. “Goud who is finding himself politically marginalised after quitting the TDP and forming his own party, which failed to take off, is the mediator,” the sources said. According to the sources, Goud held talks with Chiranjeevi and Naga Babu on the issue on Monday after which the NTP leader confabulated with BJP floor leader G Kishan Reddy the same day. “Devender Goud will lead a delegation to New Delhi to meet BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani and party president Rajnath Singh on Thursday,” the sources said. Goud told at a press conference on Tuesday that his delegation will offer the support of the PRP and NTP to the BJP on the private members’ bill to be moved in the Lok Sabha by the right-wing party on Telangana on February 20. “But the agenda also includes forging some kind of understanding for the elections,” sources said. The state BJP, however, is publicly maintaining that there is no question of any understanding with the PRP-NTP combine and that it would go it alone. But indications are that it is not averse to exploring a few options to expand its base in Andhra Pradesh. The PRP and NTP have already announced that they will have a tie-up for the coming general and assembly elections.
