Hyderabad, Aug 22 (IANS) Four days before he formally launches his political party, Telugu film star and wannabe-politician Chiranjeevi Friday celebrated his 54rd birthday quietly with his family.

After a three-decade-long film career, he proposes to launch Aug 26 his yet unnamed party at a public meeting in the temple town of Tirupati. He announced his entry into politics Sunday, saying he was dedicating his life to serving the people.

Not sure whether he would find time for the family later, the actor preferred to celebrate his birthday at his house in the upmarket Jubilee Hills here. He spent the day with his mother Anjana Devi, wife Surekha and other family members.

In sharp contrast, his supporters and fans celebrated the day with much fanfare.

A large number of them gathered outside his house and at the party office to greet him.

Chiru, as he is popularly known, had appealed to his fans across the state not to reach Hyderabad to greet him and instead take up social work and plant trees in their respective towns and villages.

Responding to his call, fans’ associations organised meals for the poor, health check-up camps, blood donation camps and distributed fruits among patients at various hospitals besides planting trees.

The fans also cut huge cakes, took out processions and organised free screening of some films of the actor.

In Visakhapatnam, Chiranjeevi’s fans cut a 53-kg cake, burst firecrackers and raised slogans hailing his entry into politics.

The celebrations in Vijayawada triggered tension when fans of popular actor Mahesh Babu took exception to the removal of his cut-out by Chiru’s fans. One person was injured in the resulting clash between the two groups.

Mahesh Babu, son of veteran actor and former Congress MP G.S. Krishna, celebrated his birthday earlier this month amid speculations that he would campaign for the ruling Congress party in next year’s elections.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi’s fans have stepped up efforts to mobilise huge crowds for the Aug 26 meeting at Tirupati, where the actor would announce the name of his party and its agenda.

Though his fans were expecting that he would launch the party on his birthday, he preferred to do it on the birth anniversary of Mother Teresa, whom he described as his source of inspiration.

Chiru is already engaged in social service and runs a blood and eye bank here and his fans hope to see him as the next chief minister.

He has a huge fan following, comparable to thespian N.T. Rama Rao, who had taken the state politics by storm by floating Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982. NTR had come to power within nine months of launching the party.

Born on Aug 22, 1955 in Mogalturu, a small village in the coastal district of West Godavari in the family of an excise constable, Chiru was christened Konidela Siva Shankara Varaprasad.

After graduating in commerce, he began his film career in 1978 – when he renamed himself Chiranjeevi – and carved out a niche for himself with his image of an action hero. He acted in 147 films and churned several blockbusters including those with social message.

Chiru bagged various awards for his acting, his contribution to Telugu cinema and social service. He was also awarded Padma Bhushan in 2006.

Known to be a sensitive and kind-hearted man, Chiru Thursday admitted a physically challenged person as the first member of his party. ‘I will be the second member,’ he said.

Young Heroes Betrayed Chiru PRP?

When megastar Chiranjeevi was ruling the roost at Tollywood, there were many who used to flock around him and this also included some of the noted heroes who treated Chiru as their ‘Annayya’ and were flaunting statements that they were willing to do anything for them.

Some of the notable names are that of family star Srikanth, crazy mass masala hero Ravi Teja, super comedians Sunil and Venu Madhav. However, many in the industry now say that all those lines seem to be some eyewash as not one of them were seen doing anything for Chiru when he got into politics.

Given the cine ammunition that other political parties had, it was only Chiru and his brothers who did the canvassing for Praja Rajyam Party and none of the names mentioned gave at least one statement to support Chiru during his political journey. So the talk amongst the PRP circles and few pockets of Film Nagar is that these young actors have actually betrayed the megastar.

PRP for issue-based floor coordination

Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Tuesday declared that the party’s floor coordination with the other Opposition parties in the Assembly would strictly be ‘issue-based’.

He also stated that they were yet to decide on who they would support for the Speaker’s post in the Legislative Assembly. Asked if they would support the Congress nominee N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, or a possible candidate fielded by the Telugu Desam, he said the party would take a decision on Wednesday.

He was speaking to presspersons after a meeting of the Praja Rajyam Legislature Party, that included a training programme for first-time legislators, 15 of them, including the party president. The training had interactive sessions on privileges, rights and responsibilities of MLAs with senior, former legislators, including T. Devender Goud, Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, Kala Venkat Rao and former IAS officer KSR Murthy.
Eager for ‘real’ life role

On his feelings as he was about to enter the exalted portals of the Assembly, he was excited that he would no longer be essaying a role in ‘reel’ life.

“I am looking forward to this ‘real’ life role and live up to the expectations of the people who elected me,” he said. The Praja Rajyam president did not mince words saying film personalities elected to the Assembly had failed to deliver.

“None of those elected to this august House were able to deliver completely. I am willing to make a difference through constructive criticism without personal attacks,” he said, adding that Praja Rajyam MLAs would uphold the decorum of the House without resorting to cheap publicity.

He appointed B. Shobha Nagi Reddy (Allagadda), Ganta Srinivas Rao (Anakapalle) and Bandaru Satyananda Rao (Kothapeta) as Deputy Leaders of the party in the Assembly.

Vanga Geeta (Pithapuram) would be the party’s Whip, E. Anil (Balkonda) and Y. Ravi (Vijayawada East), secretaries, and A. Rambabu (Giddalur) treasurer.

PRP Chiranjeevi First Day in Assembly Sabha Meeting

Telugu megastar-turned-politician K. Chiranjeevi Wednesday began a new innings in his career when he entered the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly as a member.

Elected from Tirupati constituency, the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president entered the premises of the assembly to a warm welcome by his party colleagues.

However, his entry was also marked by protest from a former PRP leader Masala Eranna, who had quit the party before elections to protest the denial of ticket. Police later whisked away Eranna when he was trying to enter the house raising slogans of “Chiranjeevi down down”.

Clad in white with a green scarf, Chiranjeevi, the floor leader of PRP, took oath as member of the 13th legislative assembly, whose first session began with members taking oath of allegiance to the Constitution of India and vowed to abide by the assembly rules.

The 53-year-old Chiranjeevi, who launched PRP in August last year after a three-decade long successful film career, took oath in Telugu amid thumping of desks by his party legislators.

Before entering the house, the actor told reporters that his party would play the role of a constructive opposition and take up people’s issues in the house.

Though claiming to be a strong contender for power, PRP finished a poor third with 18 seats in 294-member assembly in April elections. Chiranjeevi himself lost the polls from Palacole in his native West Godavari district, though he was elected from temple town of Tirupati.

Bureaucrat-turned-politician Jayaprakash Narayan also made a beginning as the state legislator. The Lok Satta president was elected from Kukatpally constituency in the state capital on the slogan of clean politics.

Though Jayaprakash Narayan was the only Lok Satta candidate elected, the party made an impressive beginning by polling significant number of votes, especially in urban constituencies.

Jayaprakash Narayan, who took oath in the name of the sacred office of the legislator, had quit as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official in mid 1990s to launch Lok Satta, a movement for democratic reforms. In 2007, he turned the movement into a political party.

Earlier, the session began after state governor Narayan Dutt Tiwari administered oath to senior Congress party legislator J.C. Diwakar Reddy as protem speaker at Raj Bhavan.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the first to take oath as legislator followed by leader of opposition and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu.

After the two leaders, the ministers took the oath. Two out of 35 cabinet ministers could not take oath as they were away attending the last rites of newly elected Congress legislator K. Revatipathi who died Tuesday following cardiac arrest.

His death brought the strength of Congress party to 155 in 294-member house.

For the first time in its 26-year-old history, TDP is sitting in opposition for the second consecutive term. The party bagged 92 seats against 45 seats it held in the previous assembly.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) won 10 seats, down from 26 in 2004 elections. Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) improved its tally from five to seven.

Communist Party of India (CPI) won four, against six in the last elections. The strength of CPI-M came down from seven to one. BJP remained at two while three independents were also elected.

PRP Chiru Said GHMC Elections Tour Schedule

19_284545657

HYDERABAD: The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) would join hands with other parties in fighting against the Government whenever a need arises, said party president Chiranjeevi.

Speaking to the media at the party office here, he said that his party would support the schemes and activities of the Government which would help the people, but at the same time oppose tooth-andnail those which were harmful.

When asked about possible alliances with the other parties in the upcoming local body elections, Chiranjeevi said that it was too early to comment on that.

The newly elected party MLAs would be given training tomorrow in which party senior leaders and some experts from outside would enlighten them on their role in the Legislature, the PRLP leader said.
Reacting on TD president Chandrababu Naidu’s comments that his party had lost because of the PRP, Chiranjeevi advised him not to blame others for the defeat but accept it gracefully.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the candidates of the party in the Assembly elections he urged them to work to enable the party to put up a good show in the forthcoming elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

Likening his party to a growing tree, he said that in the last election a seed was sown, it should grow into a sapling in the local body elections, become a big tree by the next elections and match itself with the other two giants.

“In the last elections something has gone wrong. It may be due to lack of experience or electioneering skills or some tricks that are known only to other parties, whatever the reason we lost,” Chiranjeevi said.

In Olympics a number of competitive athletes participate, but only those who have the best skills will eventually win, he pointed out.
He assured that he would work with the candidates and workers for the victory of the party in the GHMC elections

PRP Chiranjeevi Rs 50 Cr Tensions

chiru21243855738

For all those who thought that megastar Chiranjeevi’s woes have ended with his party’s dismal defeat in the recent elections, then this would change their minds. Apparently, Chiru is now said to be working on a cost cutting plan along with his trusted brother in law Allu Aravind.

It is said that till the year 2014 when the next elections will happen, the budget for the normal functioning of the various party offices all over the state is said to be coming upto Rs 50 crores. Apparently, Allu Aravind is reportedly not keen on spending that much amount and even Chiru also is said to be silent. Even the party members are also not willing to shell out money from their pockets to run offices.

Now, PRP sources are revealing that the senior management is planning to scrap all offices and continue at only their Krishna Nagar and Jubilee Hills. If this happens, then many predict that by the time 2014 comes, Praja Rajyam Party will be nothing less than a board and a building.

TIRUPATI: Praja Rajyam president and Tirupati MLA K. Chiranjeevi on Thursday left no stone unturned to lift the sagging morale of his party cadres in the district.

On his maiden visit to the constituency that voted him, Mr. Chiranjeevi conducted a district-level review meeting and thanked the people of the district who had voted in favour of the party candidates. He also told the party workers in no uncertain terms the need to get in touch with the grassroots.

After offering prayers at Tirumala, Mr. Chiranjeevi drove down to the suburban Padmavathipuram where he inaugurated the party’s local office in the building adjacent to the residence of party leader Chadalawada Krishnamurthy. He was mobbed by party enthusiasts and youth wherever he went. In a closed-door meeting with district convener Jangalapalli A.Srinivasulu, former legislators A. Mohan and Ch. Krishnamurthy, office-bearers S. Muni Subramanyam and Kathula Sudhakar among others, Mr. Chiranjeevi was learnt to have made some plain-speaking on the reasons for the party’s defeat in the State and the factors that led to its poor show in the district as well.

The meet discussed at length the gaping gaps in the party’s administrative machinery and its failure to appeal to the masses, in spite of all the initial hype on the party and the halo around the leader. Mr. Chiranjeevi was learnt to have told the workers not to get dejected as the party had made significant strides in reaching out to the weaker sections, as could be seen from the voting pattern. He held separate meetings with leaders of the 14 constituencies to get first-hand information on the lacunae in the setup and the reasons for the dent in the expected vote share.

Chiru challenge to Ysr

chiranjeevi_ysr

Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi has a double face: one innocent and other ugly.

This was stated by former Mahila Rajyam leader P Sarojini Devi, mother of film actress Pratyusha, who died in the most suspicious circumstances a few years ago. She quit the PRP just before polls, after she was denied the ticket.

Sarojini said the PRP was like a fake company, which collected money from the gullible people and cheated them later. The PRP leaders made hundreds of crores of rupees cashing in on the name and image of Chiranjeevi. “He is a doubled-faced character. He talks sweetly, but cheats the people, especially womenfolk,” she said.

She claimed that party general secretary Allu Arvind had convinced her to talk to the mothers of Swapnika and Ayesha which she did. “But after that I was badly cheated by the party,’’ she alleged.
