10 Reasons why Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy got a second Season

ysr_610558694

Except a few poll predictions, everyone has written off Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy coming back to power.

YSR took a great risk by campaigning alone on the plank of development and welfare to all and he even claimed that he will alone be responsible either for the win or defeat of Congress party in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

As the rummy playing card game players know he took the highest risk of an AC-DC game… and won. He got 155 seats in the AP Assembly and a phenomenal 33 Lok Sabha seats. A fabulous and incredible victory indeed!

Most political analysts feel that there are exactly 10 Reasons for YSR’s Second Season :

1. The 26 odd people friendly welfare schemes, in spite of lower level administrative apathy and inefficiency and corruption at certain places, have reached at least 80% of the population.

2. The blatant corruption charges made against YSR by the combined opposition political parties did not stick. Corruption is not at all an issue in India; particularly the state of Andhra Pradesh, where even to get a legitimate ration card or a liquor bottle, one has to pay extra…some thing like a tip…nothing more, nothing less.

3. The two new political parties in AP, viz, Lok Satta and Praja Rajyam have cut into the vote bank of TDP, TRS, CPI and CPM. PRP got a vote share of 16 point something and LSP got a few points more than the one point odd of Left parties.

4. Nara Chandrababu Naidu lost his credibility along with KCR of TRS with his volte face on the issue of separate Telangana.

5. Naidu by promising “everything free” appeared to be bent upun usurping power at any cost.

6. If TRS really wanted a separate Telangana, KCR would have contested all the 119 Assembly seats in Telangana alone on his party mandate. It was not to be. By joining Mahakootami (Grand Alliance) he has buried the issue of separate statehood to Telangana for ever. He has obviously lost credibility with even the hard core separatists.

7. So is the case of loss of credibility with TDP, CPi and CPM as they joined into the so-called 3rd Front.

8. Naidu further lost his image of being a 9-year efficient CM by crawling and kissing the feet of Nandamuri Balakrishna and even the fledgling Tollywood hero NTR Jr. Trying to join your former antagonists is a sure sign of weakness and drop in the self confidence level of a politician.

9. The 1 crore 47 lakh new voters registered in AP ( largely in the age group of 18 years to 25…urban & rural) seem to have more faith in Dr Manmohan Singh and Lok Satta + PRP than the free-wheeler-dealer otherwise known as Nara Chandrababu Naidu. YSR got the advantage by default because of the negative swing of the vote bank of the opposition parties.

10. Irrespective of caste, class, creed, urban or rural, gender, age or professional or unemployed, educated or otherwise, all those who went to the hustling to exercise their franchise wanted a United, Strong and Stable India.

The result of the greatest and largest democratic exercise is now right before the world for everyone to see and appreciate.

PRP’s good show upsets Srihari’s Telangana plan

chir_781014453

Ironical it is but the one Telugu Desam leader who strongly pushed party chief N Chandrababu Naidu into forging an alliance with the TRS, Kadiam Srihari, has himself lost the Assembly seat.

A former minister, Srihari was defeated in Station Ghanpur constituency in Warangal district by Congress nominee T Rajaiah by over 10,000 votes. The PRP nominee here, A Ramesh, polled an impressive 25,000 votes and that could have tilted the balance in favour of the Congress.

Srihari, along with Erraballi Dayakar Rao, also from Warangal district, was among the Telangana TDP leaders who not only forced Naidu to change the party’s stance in favour of a separate State but also insisted on an alliance with the TRS.
Dayakar Rao, however, managed to scrape through with a margin of over 2,000 votes in Palakurthy. What could have helped him here was that the PRP candidate polled only 7,000 votes.

In fact, the grapevine has it that both of them entertained hopes of ruling the Telangana state in the event of Telugu Desam forming the government in the State but only with the help of TRS in which case the party might be forced to concede the demand for statehood. Neither has this happened nor has the BJP, which promised a Telangana state within 100 days of coming to power in Delhi, managed to win at the Centre.

Praja Rajyam Chiranjeevi mega restraint

chiranjeei

A megastar who reigned supreme in a dog-eat-dog tinsel town appears to have gotten over his initial hiccups of falling a prey to the arc lights on him. In the past several months since he launched Praja Rajyam, the party president K. Chiranjeevi was very much in the habit of appeasing his fans, including media persons who were almost in a frenzy all these days.

However, on Monday, while introducing his 17 other colleagues in the Praja Rajyam Legislature Party, still photographers and television cameramen called out, asking him for a ‘Thumbs Up’ with both his hands, a pose that has been oft-repeated by now. Considering the debacle in the hustings and having won just 18 Assembly seats, Mr. Chiranjeevi politely declined, kept his hands close around his chest and flashing his famous grin, refused to give in.

Chiru blames money power of other parties

chirunew21242466871

Chiranjeevi having suffering humiliated defeat stated to have revealed his thoughts over the defeat. While he thanked one and all for voting to his party and him, he also said that this is simply the beginning and there is a long way to go. However, Chiru highlighted that there was a lot of influence of money that played a key role in the election results and admitted that his candidates were not that strong in terms of finance.

Prajarajyam Party Kapu card boomerangs

chiranjeevi_20in_20ni_20_3__282693602

It is now clear that Kapus of the region have indeed backed Chiranjeevi’s Prajarajyam Party so blindly but that did not ensure the party to come out with flying colours at the hustings. The PRP candidates though lost the elections have polled between 15-50 thousand votes. The only factor that seemed to have gone against Chiru’s party is that it lacked support from other communities such as BCs, SCs and minorities.

It is evident from the fact that all the three candidates, who won the election for PRP in the region are non-Kapus. While two of them are Vysyas, the other is a Kamma. The Kapu leaders, who considered themselves strong, have lost the elections because they run the show only around Kapu voters whereas the victorious leaders had the support from other communities in addition to the Kapu votes.

The PRP nominees have virtually played spoilsport with many of the Congress candidates in Krishna district. For instance, minister Mandali Budhaprasad lost the election at Avanigadda with a thin margin of just 417 votes where the PRP candidate Ramesh polled 37,656 votes. Here the TDP nominee Ambati Bramhanaiah turned victorious only because of the backing of BCs.

Another minister Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao lost the election to TDP’s Kodali Nani at Gudivada with a margin of about 17,000 votes where the PRP candidate polled about 21,000 votes. Though former Congress legislators and PRP’s Buragadda Vedavyas and Vangaveeti Radhakrishna secured 35,000 and 51,000 votes respectively, they could not snatch victories due to the drifting away of other community votes.

Vedavyas jumped the fence only a few weeks before the polls to PRP and contested from Machilipatnam constituency. His migration to the all-new Machilipatnam constituency seems to have not got the acceptance of the other communities in the constituency as they believe that he shifted to Machilipatnam from his native Pedana (previously he represented Malleswaram) only keeping in view of the strong Kapu vote base in the port town.

Curiously, Vedavyas came third way behind TDP’s Kollu Ravindra, a BC. Nani won the seat with a majority of 11,399 votes. In all, the PRP polled a good 4,78,774 votes in Krishna district but it returned with only two assembly seats out of the 16 at stake. While the ruling Congress secured seven seats with 9.02 lakh votes, TDP too bagged an equal number of seats with 9.14 lakh votes.

Except for the lightweight PRP nominee at Jaggiahapet, Kota Kishore who got 2043, all others -B Ramu (Gannavaram-19,806), R V Rao (Gudivada-21,582), K Srinivas (Kaikalur-49,372), M Veerraju (Pedana-29,172), M Mohan Rao (Pamarru-23,438), M Vijayanirmala (Nuziveedu-24,786), D Mohan (Penamalur-31,868) polled handsome votes.

Even in Guntur new faces like M Sudhakar (Macherla-16,368), T Venkatesh (Ponnur-30,247), K Vijayakumar (Narasaraopet-17,220), D Chakravarthi (Sattenapalle-25,522), Katti Padma Rao (Vemur-23,300), Santhi Jyothi (Tadikonda-15,969) and Seetharamaiah (Bapatla-15,911) secured good votes.

PRP Chiru Opponent Usha Gets Ministry?

chiru-meet1
Major irrigation minister P Lakshmaiah, who won with a wafer-thin margin of 44 votes may lose his cabinet post, sources said. Lakshmaiah may be considered for the post of the PCC chief. The possibility of making him the Assembly Speaker also cannot be discounted.

YSR will also have to search for a suitable Muslim candidate to replace energy minister Mohd Shabbir Ali who lost the polls. Among the new faces who are likely to be inducted into the cabinet are chief whip N Kiran Kumar Reddy, D Sridhar Babu, D L Ravindra Reddy, B Usharani (another giant killer from Palakollu who defeated Chiranjeevi) and K Rambhupal Reddy from Panyam in Kurnool district. However, the selection of the aspirants would have to be based on the caste and regional equations, party sources said.

The Congress Legislature Party is likely to meet on Monday to elect YSR as the leader. He is expected to take oath as CM on May 20 and leave for Bethlehem on May 23 on pilgrimage.

Reddy is scheduled to return on May 30 after which the Assembly would meet for a fullfledged budget session in the first week of June.
