Star campaigner for Telugu Desam Party N. Balakrishna on Sunday described as most unfortunate his sister and Union Minister Daggubati Purandeswari’s decision to associate with the Congress.
“I am very pained and hurt to campaign here where Ms. Purandeswari is pitted by the Congress against TDP’s M.V.V.S. Murthi. Though I love her a lot as a brother, her decision to join the Congress against which our father late N.T. Rama Rao had taken up cudgels by forming TDP in 1982 and bringing it to power in a record nine months,” he said during a roadshow at Jagadamba junction.
A few hundred fans and party supporters waited to listen to his speech. Owing to thin crowd, he had to stretch his speech so as to enable people who emerged out of nearby theatres after watching morning show to gather at the venue.
Mr. Balakrishna appealed to the people at roadshows held at Arilova, MVP Colony, Shivajipalem, NAD Kotha Road and other places in the city that TDP should be given a chance to strengthen the hands of party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, who brought name and fame for Andhra Pradesh during his nine-year rule.
‘Jalayagnam’ flayed
Accusing Congress of indulging in a ‘flood of corruption,’ he said Mr. Naidu, when he was the Chief Minister, used to take up one project after the other.
“Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was different and had launched several irrigation projects under Jalayagnam just to get huge kickbacks from the contractors,” he alleged.
Launching a scathing attack on actor Chiranjeevi, he wondered what change the fledgling Praja Rajyam Party would bring about with the party enrolling several political turncoats.
Those who left the party accuse PRP of lacking commitment to social justice, he pointed out and mentioned how the poor would be benefited due to schemes like cash transfer pledged by Mr. Naidu.
