No question of supporting any party, says Chiranjeevi

112367563582

Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi said the question of his party extending support to any other party did not arise since it would ride to power on its own by bagging a minimum of 160 Assembly seats.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, the first after polling concluded on April 23, Mr. Chiranjeevi refused to respond to a volley of questions about his possible post-poll allies in the event of a ‘hung’ Assembly.

When the queries persisted, he said; “I don’t know how you can continue to question me on the same lines even after I have stated that we are confident of making it alone, without any other party’s help.”

Reviews performance

Earlier, he chaired the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting when he reviewed the party’s performance and prospects, interacting with the 14 member-strong committee and other senior leaders. The leaders as well as the party cadres seemed to be full of enthusiasm, bolstered by constituency-level reports.

Explaining the basis of his party’s confidence, he said the new voters, who constituted 5.5 per cent of all the voters, were attracted by the Praja Rajyam’s mantra of ‘change’. Besides, a majority of women and youth who were out at the polling booths were also motivated to give the fledgling party a chance.

Targets TD, Congress

“People are fed up with the 14-year rule of the Telugu Desam and the Congress. That is why there was silent voting,” he said. The Praja Rajyam president lashed out at the TDP and Congress, accusing them of ‘trying everything in the book against a new party that successfully gained the people’s trust in a few months of its existence’.

He accused both the parties of spending crores of rupees and ‘making liquor flow’, in their bid to stop him from winning in Tirupati and Palacole.

He was unperturbed though, he said, because people firmly believed him.

Mr. Chiranjeevi acknowledged the role of Chief Electoral Officer I.V. Subba Rao and Director-General of Police A.K. Mohanty in conducting free and fair elections.

Chiru decided on Congress?

chiranjeei1

It looks like Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi is inclining towards supporting the Congress, without Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, in the event of formation of a hung assembly.

During the political affairs committee meeting of the PRP on Tuesday, Chiranjeevi reportedly approved the suggestion that the party could extend conditional support to the Congress from outside, provided a BC would become the Chief Minister.

On Wednesday, he reaffirmed his thoughts. Referring to the demand within the Congress that a BC should become the next Chief Minister, Chiranjeevi said it was a welcome sign in the Congress party. “The social justice slogan of the PRP seems to have had its effect on the Congress, too. That is why, there is a demand for a BC chief minister in the party,” he said.

Chirpy Chiru sees clear majority

gallery25911_996658829

The Praja Rajyam is confident of winning at least 160 seats, thereby acquiring a clear majority i n the 294-strong Assembly and forming the next government in the State.

With political affairs committee member P Upendra today submitting to party supremo Chiranjeevi a list of candidates who were “going to win the elections’’, the latter declared with satisfaction that polling had gone according to expectations.

The star-turned-politician, who returned to the city on Saturday night after campaigning, was informally interacting at his residence with leaders P Upendra, Kotagiri Vidyadhara Rao, P Vinay Kumar and Umamalleswara Rao.

Among the notes they swapped was the Tirupati hotel room incident in which the party honcho’s room was searched.

Chiranjeevi said the episode had actually helped the party by increasing the polling percentage in the second phase. The people would give a clear mandate, the PRP president said and ruled out the possibility of a hung Assembly.

He claimed that the large turnout of women and youth spoke in favour of the PRP.

Chiranjeevi said there was no need for the PRP to support any party or to seek their help as the PRP was “going to get a clear majority’’. A meeting of the political affairs committee, in which special invitees would also participate, would be held at the party office tomorrow. Election matters would be thoroughly reviewed and a plan of action till declaration of results chalked out.

Chiranjeevi reportedly told the leaders who met him today that he would stay put in Hyderabad till the announcement of results and would attend the party office regularly.

PRP forecasts win of 29 LS seats

05_3__338756950

The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) would win 29 Parliamentary seats in the State, the party leaders claimed citing the results of previous elections as the benchmark. The party that won the Assembly elections got that many Lok Sabha seats in the past few elections, they reasoned.

Speaking to mediapersons here today, party political affairs committee member Kala Venkat Rao, accompanied by general secretary Umamalleswara Rao and secretary Chenchal Rao said the parties that had won the majority in the State Assembly had got 29 Lok Sabha seats in the past.

Women and youths had overwhelmingly voted for the party.

Many women had even confirmed this fact after the polling, he said. He had never seen youths lining up before the polling stations as early as 7.30 am in the last six elections, he added.

Venkat Rao said the turnout in the two-phase poll showed the same kind of pattern observed in the 1983 Assembly elections that gave a landslide victory to NT Ramarao. Chiranjeevi was more a reformer than a politician and the people had acknowledged the fact, he added. The party chief ’s filmstar image, social justice slogan and the BC factor were at work on the poll eve, the former minister claimed.

Rubbishing claims of other parties of having PRP’s support in case of a hung Assembly in the State, Venkat Rao said the PRP would win a clear majority.

YSR confidence or overconfidence?

ysr_232271208

Everyone knows Y.S.R unyielding nature, that could be the reason why many people who likes him call as Iron Man people who moves with him also calls him as “Mondivadu”. Y.S.R has proved his “Mondivadu” title many times but this times it is quite surprising though elections are over still Y.S. R believes in his words. In Entire Andhra people believe in hung Assembly. Y.S.R who is saying congress will win to power again with 230 seats before and after elections still stands on his words. When Y.S.R said about his magic figure his opponents thought he is trying to keep morale of congress workers high? But inside the Congress Party discussions, though Y.S.R is not that confident about his 230 number he is keeping his word as is to keep the morale of Congress Party in other states. He made a Delhi trip to attract national media and tell to rest of the country that congress is going to win AP so as to give boast to Congress Party workers in other States. Whether Y.S.R strategy worked in AP or not one have to wait till May 16th for clear verdict.

Jogaiah punctures Chiru balloon!

hari-rama-jogaiah

Praja Rajyam Party leader and former MP Ch Harirama Jogaiah continues to trouble his party president Chiranjeevi with his loose talk.

While Chiranjeevi is exuding confidence that there is a silent wave among the people in favour of the PRP in the elections, Jogaiah punctured his balloon saying that the party has no chances of coming to power on its own. “At the most, the PRP will get a maximum of 120 seats and a minimum of 80 seats,” he told media persons in Eluru.

This has naturally come as an embarrassment to Chiru, who is already in a state of depression. He is learnt to have called Jogaiah and pulled him up for talking nonsense. Looks like Jogaiah is turning out to be another M Satyanarayana Rao for the PRP!

Naidu crafty, YSR bold: Chiru

chiru111240843550

The Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi is not ready to reveal which party he would support in the event of a fractured mandate, but believes that the Telugu Desam chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, is craftier than the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S.Rajasekhar Reddy, who is “outspoken and bold.”

The comments may give food for thought to political analysts in the context of the Congress and the TD making overtures to get his support in the event of a hung Assembly.

“We can easily understand the strategies of Dr Reddy by observing his behaviour and words,” said Chiranj-eevi in an interview to this newspaper. “He (Dr Reddy) is fair and his actions are transparent. But, it is very difficult to gauge the gameplans of the TD chief. His attitude and behaviour change every hour. It is difficult to read his actions and predict his behaviour.”

Chiranjeevi himself is confident that his party would get the “magic number.” He said he was not even thinking about the possibility of a hung House. “If I consider that idea, it will be nothing but insulting people of the state, who voted for my party in support of change slogan and have enormous confidence in me,” he said.

According to the Praja Rajyam chief, the people of the state were intelligent enough to elect a competent government.

“The political history of our state reveals this,” he said. “Whenever polls were held, right from Srikakulam to Adilabad, voters gave uniform mandate as if all of them discussed it over the phone. This time too the same thing is going to happen.”

Interestingly, Chiranjeevi does not imagine his party occupying the Opposition seats in the Assembly either. He said the Congress was the main opponent for the Praja Rajyam in the polls, since the TD had lost credibility among people with its U-turns on several issues.

When asked why he was attacking Mr Naidu, after praising him in 2004, Chiranjeevi said he thought initially that the TD chief was doing good things for the state but had to change his opinion later. “I was moved by the spate of suicides of farmers during Mr Naidu’s regime,” he said. “Before the 2004 polls, Mr Naidu called on the actor Brahmanadam while he was shooting in a studio, to seek his support. I could not believe that a Chief Minister would stoop to that level. After that, my opinion about Mr Naidu began changing.”

He started developing a different attitude towards Dr Reddy after learning about the “realities” of his regime. “I respected Dr Reddy for taking up several projects and developmental works on a large-scale but then I heard that there was huge corruption behind all this,” Chiranjeevi said.

Chiranjeevi also pointed out that Praja Rajyam had spoiled a smooth Congress victory. “Had my party not been there, it would have been a cakewalk for the Congress,” he said. “Now, we have broken their monopoly.”

Regarding his party’s role in the national level, Chiranjeevi said that he would follow the “Tamil Nadu model” of giving priority to the interests of the state. He made it clear that his party would not align with the Congress-led UPA, the BJP-led NDA or the TD-led third front in the Centre.

“Praja Rajyam will be part of the fourth front launched by Samajawadi party at national level, and we will maintain equidistance from the other three fronts,” he said.

KCR For Cong-TRS-PRP Coalition In State

chen_kcr_chiru1233482932

Political realignment appeared to take place in the state on Monday with the TDP and CPM exploring the possibility of roping in regional parties to consolidate the Third Front even as TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao indicated that he would prefer not to sail with the TDP in the state in case either a Congress or BJP-led government takes over at the Centre.

CPM general secretary Prakash Karat flew in from New Delhi and had a four hour meeting with TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence. With Naidu sounding confident that a Grand Alliance government will take shape in the state, the two leaders explored the formation of a non-Congress and non-BJP led government at the Centre.

However, Grand Alliance partner TRS seemed to prefer a Congress-TRS-PRP coalition in the state over and above a Grand Alliance coalition of which it is a partner with the TDP and the two Left parties. “A TDP led government in the state will not find favour with either a Congress or BJP ruled government at the Centre as both these national parties would perceive the TDP as a natural ally of the Left parties,” a TRS leader said.

But TDP leaders said KCR is jumping the gun as the results are not yet out. “The TRS has contested 9 Lok Sabha seats. It has to win at least 4 to 5 seats in order to get the bargaining chip at the Centre. Without a few seats under his belt, it is too premature for him to explore the options with the Congress or the BJP,” a TDP leader said.

KCR was scheduled to leave for New Delhi on Sunday and meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BJP leader L K Advani. “The BJP has promised Telangana within 100 days of coming to power. And if the Congress gives us an assurance on granting Telangana, we will not be averse to supporting a Congress-led government at the Centre and forming a coalition of the Congress, TRS and the PRP in the state,” a TRS leader said.

Naidu appeared to have prevailed upon KCR to postpone his New Delhi trip by assuring him over telephone on Monday that the TDP is committed to granting Telangana and that the same has been promised in the party’s election manifesto. But with KCR indicating that he would prefer the Congress or the BJP at the Centre, how long before the two part ways is the moot question.
