Which way Chiru would go – TDP or Cong?

Now that it is more or less certain that megastar and Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi will not come to power, but would emerge as a deciding factor for the next government, the question that is doing rounds is which way he would go – the Congress or the Telugu Desam Party?

Normally, it is believed that the PRP has the backing of Kapus and they would never support the TDP, backed by their traditional rivals, Kammas. And since Kapus hitherto had been part of the Congress vote bank, they would prefer Chiranjeevi to support the Congress in the event of a hung Assembly.

There is a different argument by some other PRP leaders. According to them, the Left parties would play an important role in mediating between the TDP and the PRP. If the Congress does not get the majority, it amounts to people rejecting the YSR government and therefore, people would not appreciate a PRP-Congress nexus. Secondly, YSR has the capabilities of splitting the PRP strength, as he had done in the case of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Compared to YSR, the TDP president is a safe bet, they say.

However, Chiranjeevi can consider supporting the Congress, provided YSR is not their chief ministerial candidate. Will that happen?

Chiranjeevi in an interview to a leading telugu TV channel revealed that he expected to get 95 to 105 seats in the second phase. When you add 75 seats expected in the first phase, Prajarajyam will get a minimum of 180 seats and a majority of seats in the assembly. The public displayed opposition to congress and lack of credibility to the claims of TDP. He did not reveal who he will support at Delhi and Hyd in a hung situation. He assured that he will go after looters of public money and currupt officials after assuming power. TDP leader Chandrababu expressed confidence that Mahakootami will get more than 200 seats. Chiranjeevi said Chandrababu is just creating hype as he did in 2004 and as happened in 2004 Chandrababu will get less seats in 2009 also.

Differences cast a shadow on Chiru tour

Posted by chiru On October - 22 - 2008

Amidst the speculation about the schedule of Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi’s tour to Telangana district, the differences among PR leaders continue to worry the organisers.

The differences came to the fore when Chiranjeevi fans virtually manhandled party observers who came from Hyderabad to sort out the differences and set the house right. The fans are reportedly sore over the importance being given to the leaders who came from other political parties and could establish direct contact with the key persons around Mr. Chiranjeevi.
Dates not finalised

The fans on the other hand are dejected as they are not able to get an appointment with Chiranjeevi and feel they are being sidelined within the party.

Meanwhile, the party functionaries indicated that Mr. Chiranjeevi would tour Telangana in second phase of Praja Ankita yatra. But, the dates are still to be finalised. He is likely to undertake the Telangana tour which includes Warangal district after the Deepavali festival.

The party observers, B. Sidhartha Goud, Deshpande, and Satyanarayana Reddy, have been camping in the district to ensure unity among the party leaders and put up an impressive mobilisation for their leader’s visit to the district.

They have succeeded in persuading the fans to cooperate with the party machinery and assured them of according top priority in the soon to be announced district committee.

But the differences still persist among the leaders, who have joined the PR from other parties and between the new entrants.
New entrants issue

New entrants M. Sampath Rao of the Rice Millers Association, N. Laxmi Prasad of the Lifeline Hospital, A. Varada Reddy of the SR Educational Institutions, B. Sampath Kumar, who is a distributor, and many others are sulking that they were not being given important positions they deserve.

The increased importance being given to E. Pradeep Rao, who has joined the party from the TDP, is a strong point of contention among the PR leaders in the district.

One has to see whether Mr. Chiranjeevi’s tour would pass off peacefully or the differences between the fans and party workers rock the tour.

PRP Observers Having Tough Time with Fans

Posted by chiru On October - 22 - 2008

The Praja Rajyam observers have been visiting the districts across the State to collect opinions of the party activists and fans on the possible committees to be formed at different levels.

The PRP had nominated six-member team to each of the districts with one of them heading the team. In turn, the members have shared the Assembly segments and holding talks with the fans and the leaders. In districts like Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari, the observers are staying in star hotels, sponsored by the leading aspirants, who are either real estate operators or the NRIs.

Though there is not much a difficulty for these observers in collecting information, they are having tough time with the fans competing for the top posts.

The fans have been feeling that they are being sidelined by the party, while the politicians are unhappy with the presence of the fans. The disgruntled fans are now giving tough time to the observers asking them to recommend their names for the committees. Some of them are also mounting pressure on the observers to include their names in the probable candidates for the Assembly elections.

How will these observers complete their exercise under such pressures is a big question.
