Pandharpur yatra on Ashadi Ekadasi live | Vitthal pandharpur temple darshan | Ashadi Ekadasi today

Ashadhi Ekadashi, falls on eleventh day in bright half of Ashad Maas. Today is Ashadi Ekadashi . Also popular known as Devshayani Ekadashi or Sayana Ekadasi or Harisayani Ekadashi or Harivasara Ekadasi, Ashadi Ekadasi marks the celebration of Pandharpur Palki Yatra in Vithoba Temple in Maharashtra. 17-days long Ashadi Waari Palki Yatra concludes on Ashadi Ekadasi day in Pandharpur Vithal Temple.

This holy day is of special significance to Vaishnavas, followers of Hindu preserver god Vishnu.

Origin : It is believed that Vishnu falls asleep in Ksheersagar – cosmic ocean of milk – on Shesha nāga, the cosmic serpent. Thus the day is also called Dev-Shayani Ekadashi (lit. “god-sleeping eleventh”) or Hari-shayani Ekadashi (lit. “Vishnu-sleeping eleventh”) or Shayana Ekadashi. Vishnu finally awakens from his slumber four months later on Prabodhini Ekadashi – eleventh day of bright fortnight in the Hindu month Kartik (October-November). This period is known as Chaturmas (lit. “four months”) and coincides with the rainy season. Thus, Shayani Ekadashi is the beginning of Chaturmas. Devotees start observing the Chaturmas vrata (vow) to please Vishnu on this day

Pandharpur yatra palki of great saint Tukaram Maharaj has started on 3rd July and will end today on Ashadi Ekadasi.

You can watch the live darshan of Pandharpur temple yatra 2010 where it is celebrated on your local channel.
