HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam has regretted that ‘injustice’ had been done to the State in terms of the poor representation in the Union Council of Ministers and charged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy with lack of will to pursue the State’s agenda. At a press conference here on Thursday, senior leader T. Sitaram said that although 33 Congress MPs were elected from the State, Dr. Reddy managed to secure only one Cabinet rank Minister and four Ministers of State.

In comparison, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, that sent lesser number of Congress and Trinamool Congress MPs, had bagged many more berths while the NCP could get three. He regretted that the North-South divide still continued despite better performance. Of the 78-strong Union Cabinet, only 26 were from the South, he said.

TIRUPATI: Praja Rajyam president and Tirupati MLA K. Chiranjeevi on Thursday left no stone unturned to lift the sagging morale of his party cadres in the district.

On his maiden visit to the constituency that voted him, Mr. Chiranjeevi conducted a district-level review meeting and thanked the people of the district who had voted in favour of the party candidates. He also told the party workers in no uncertain terms the need to get in touch with the grassroots.

After offering prayers at Tirumala, Mr. Chiranjeevi drove down to the suburban Padmavathipuram where he inaugurated the party’s local office in the building adjacent to the residence of party leader Chadalawada Krishnamurthy. He was mobbed by party enthusiasts and youth wherever he went. In a closed-door meeting with district convener Jangalapalli A.Srinivasulu, former legislators A. Mohan and Ch. Krishnamurthy, office-bearers S. Muni Subramanyam and Kathula Sudhakar among others, Mr. Chiranjeevi was learnt to have made some plain-speaking on the reasons for the party’s defeat in the State and the factors that led to its poor show in the district as well.

The meet discussed at length the gaping gaps in the party’s administrative machinery and its failure to appeal to the masses, in spite of all the initial hype on the party and the halo around the leader. Mr. Chiranjeevi was learnt to have told the workers not to get dejected as the party had made significant strides in reaching out to the weaker sections, as could be seen from the voting pattern. He held separate meetings with leaders of the 14 constituencies to get first-hand information on the lacunae in the setup and the reasons for the dent in the expected vote share.

PRP Chiru speech In Assembly

When it comes to reel life, megastar Chiranjeevi was one man who was the ruling emperor of Tollywood and he was on the throne for more than a decade. However, things do not look to be the same when it comes to real life and one truth that has been expressed by many is that there is no Chiranjeevi without his brother in law and the mastermind Allu Aravind.

This is no exaggeration in the views as many incidents that took place in the Praja Rajyam Party that has been founded by Chiru had demonstrated. Apart from that, many internal sources that work with the PRP have confirmed that Chiru does not even turn his head unless he takes a word of advice from his brother in law.

Now, Chiru has got a rather difficult situation at hand now as he is all set to enter the assembly and at the same time, he does not have Allu around since he lost. So many are waiting to see as to what or how will Chiru speak with his mere presence at the assembly. Many are also imagining a situation when chief minister Y S R could show his natural aggression and cut Chiru to size which would wipe the entire fame and charisma that Chiru developed from few decades. It is known that Chiru is more attached to image and respect than anything else.

It must be recalled that during the Vajrotsavam time, the tussle that broke out between Chiru and Mohan Babu. Chiru is said to have taken few minutes off before giving his response, he then discussed the matter with Aravind and is said to have uttered exactly those words that Aravind had prepared for. Coming back to the assembly, Chiru might face the risk of facing ragging from congress, TDP and he would not have his Allu Aravind around.

If Chiru keeps quiet he will be treated as dud and people forget him for ever. If he speaks, he needs to have thorough knowledge. Otherwise Rosiah may say, “Koorchovayya Chiranjeevi…idhemi cinema shooting kaadu chethikochchina dialogue evado raasisthe nuvvu notikochchinattu chadavadaaniki…’ And YSR may say, “Bavamaridi lekundaa nuvvu maatladalevule kaani…paruvupoka munde koorchunte manchidi”. Chandrababu may say, “edi maatladina logic tho undaali..chiranjeevi laa kaadu”.

Where Chiru keeps his head if those situations arise? Can he give retort? Or spoils his health and becomes an absentee in Assembly.

His image importance might be at jeopardy and many are wondering whether Chiru will keep look around or will he talk? Even better, there are those who say that he might take a break during the proceedings, calls Allu on mobile and then comes back with an answer or a statement. It will be interesting to see Chiru in the assembly now.

It’s like Arjuna’s battle in kurukshetram without Lord Krishna on his chariot.

Chandra Babu blames Chiranjeevi for TDP

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu Wednesday blamed superstar Chiranjeevi’s entry into the political arena for his party’s debacle in the simultaneous polls to the Andhra Pradesh assembly and Lok Sabha.

Naidu also refused to accept the verdict as a positive vote for the Congress party saying it retained power by division of votes.

“It was clear from the voting trend in assembly elections that people wanted TDP to come to power,” he said while addressing Mahanadu, or the state-level convocation of his party.

The former chief minister said the entry of Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam Party and bureaucrat-turn-politician Jayaprakash Narayan’s Lok Satta into the electoral field worked against TDP as these parties split the anti-incumbency vote.

TDP could win 92 seats in the 294-member assembly while it bagged only six of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

This is the first time in TDP’s 26-year history that it is sitting in the opposition for the second consecutive term.

In his inaugural address at the two-day conclave, Naidu reminded that though the Congress had come to power in the state again, its vote percentage was only 36.8.

“This is the first time in the history of Andhra Pradesh that a party has come to power with such a meagre share of votes,” he said.

The opposition parties together polled 63.2 percent of votes and the difference in percentage of votes between the Congress and the Grand Alliance comprising TDP, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and the two Left parties was only 1.8 percent.

“In many constituencies, the TDP candidates lost the polls with a narrow margin, mainly because of the presence of the PRP and the Lok Satta. Had there not been a split in the anti-establishment vote, we would have won comfortably,” he reasoned.

Refusing to see the verdict as a positive vote for the Congress, Naidu argued the ruling party, which bagged 33 Lok Sabha seats, should have won 230 assembly seats, if it were to be a positive vote.

“The Congress has come back to power by default, by polling 1.8 percent more than the opposition alliance,” he asserted.

He declared that the TDP would continue its fight on people’s issues and asked the cadre to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Voicing concern over the suicide attempt by two party workers over the party’s defeat, he asked the cadre not to get disheartened by the result and reminded them that no other party in the country has a strong cadre base like the TDP.

Naidu also clarified that the TDP would stick to its stand in favour of separate statehood to Telangana region.

Dumping its traditional stand against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, TDP had last year backed the demand for statehood to Telangana.

The TDP chief said it would also implement a cash transfer scheme whenever it comes to power in the state. Under the scheme, the party had promised cash doles of Rs.1,000 to Rs.2,000 per month to each poor family.
