The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) today announced its weavers’ policy.
Speaking about it, party political affairs committee member K S R Murthy said if the PRP came to power, it would give an identity card to each handloom and mechanical weaver apart from free power being given to the weavers. Each weaver would be insured, chemicals given on subsidised prices, Rs 10,000 given for modernisation of the handlooms and an organisation like APTEX would be set up to promote the marketing of the finished products, Murthy explained.
Weavers will get kitchen commodities for Rs 100, ex-gratia will be given to the kin of those who die accidentally, marketing opportunities at the national and international markets level will be explored and psychological development centres would be set up in the areas where the weavers live, he said.
About 80 lakh people were dependent on weaving in the State and yet the craft was being neglected for the last 10 years, the PRP PAC committee member said.
The government did’t bothered to spend the amounts announced in the budget, he critisised. As soon as Chiranjeevi established the PRP, he went to Sirisilla and studied the situation there, he stated.
