Price rise was the main theme highlighted by actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi during his roadshow in the Telangana heartland on Sunday.
“Common people are increasingly finding it difficult to lead a decent life due to sky-rocketing prices of essential items. Failure of governments is responsible for this,” he said.
On the third day of the second leg of his mass-contact programme, christened ‘Praja Ankita Yatra’, Chiranjeevi held road shows at Karimnagar, Alaganur, Manakondur and Huzurabad among other places in the district.
The yatra received enthusiastic response from people at several places as the Praja Rajyam Party founder has already taken a favourable stand on the separate statehood.
Karimnagar is considered the hotbed of separate Telangana movement.
Meanwhile, the Praja Rajyam spokesman P Mithra has rejected the criticism of some political leaders that Chiranjeevi’s statement endorsing the statehood demand lacked clarity.
“Whatever he has said at Jagitial on the issue is final. We have clarity. The important point in our stand is that we are for social justice,” he said.
Announcing his party’s position on the Telangana demand, Chiranjeevi had asserted that the initiative for the formation of separate state has to come from the Central government.
“The truth is that the Centre has to take the decision on formation of separate Telangana. If there is any proposal from the Centre in this regard, we will welcome that. Praja Rajyam would not stand in the way of formation of Telangana state.”
Chiranjeevi would continue his roadshow tomorrow in Warangal district.
