Living up to her surname, she fired all cylinders. She not only floored the gathering but also got an assurance from Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) supremo Chiranjeevi for a nomination to the Assembly.
Tupakula Muniyamma attended a conference on `Women Empowerment’ organised by the PRP on the city outskirts today. Muniyamma, who is a member of the Yanadi community from Nellore district, gave a flamboyant speech in the conference and stole the attention of the entire gathering.
‘’It is not the Chief Minister who should be held responsible for the failure of the State Government but the local leader who prompted people to vote,’’ she said.
‘‘ Chiranjeevi will not ask everyone to vote for the party. We have to do the job. I travelled to each and every village in Kota and Vakadu mandals in my district,’’ she said.
Though she was ridiculed by people, including her husband and children, who objected to her activities, Muniyamma decided not to look back.“Those coming in cars cannot get votes,’’ she pointed out and urged that at least one or two women should stand in each village to convince people to vote for Chiranjeevi.
She said the women members of the party should convince people that unlike others, Chiranjeevi would not sit here after becoming the Chief Minister.
The party leaders should also assure that they would serve people in true spirit after getting elected, she said.
Later, when Chiranjeevi addressed the gathering, he called Muniyamma on the dais and urged the participants to take her as a model. When asked whether she would win the election if given a ticket, she replied in the affirmative.
Another women activist, Jaladi Vijaya, also won the hearts of the audience with her astounding speech. Blending songs and thoughtful words in her speech, she enlivened the auditorium.
