MLC Bommireddy to join Chiru party

Posted by chiru On August - 22 - 2008

HYDERABAD: Giving a rude shock to Congress, independent MLC from Nellore district Bommireddy Raghavendra Reddy, is all set to join Chiranjeev-i’s party. He has already met film star Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad on Monday and also held discussions with the actor’s political advisor, Dr Mithra, and his brother-in-law Allu Arvind, over mobilisation of people from Nellore district to Chiranjeevi’s proposed public meeting slated for August 26 at Tirupati.

He is the first one from a noted political family from Nellore to embrace the new political party. While his father and former legislator, Dr Sundarrami Reddy, and brother, Ravindranadh Reddy, were active in politics in Atmakur constituency since a long time, Raghavendra Reddy was into business at Chennai and Bangalore.

He filed his nomination for the ZPTC seat at the eleventh hour at the instance of former chief minister, N. Janardhan Reddy, and was a strong contender for the ZP chairman’s slot. Though he won the AS Peta ZPTC seat, he could not become chairman since the chance was given to K. Govardhan Reddy, a close follower of the Anam family.

His family has been unhappy with the Congress since then and interference by the Anam group in Atmakur constituency added fuel to the fire. Prompted by these developments, he contested for a local body MLC seat against the Congress official nominee, C.V. Sesha Reddy, and won the seat comfortably, much to the shock of Congress top brass.

‘God and People are on our side’: Chiru

Hyderabad, Aug 21 Telugu actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi Thursday hailed the Supreme Court verdict allowing him to hold a public meeting at the temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh Aug 26 to formally launch his political party.

The apex court order on a petition filed by a non-governmental organization cleared the decks for the superstar’s first public meeting scheduled to be held at the Avilala tank bed.

Reacting to the court order, Chiranjeevi said he was happy that hurdles in his way were being removed. ‘Nobody can stop us in our way to achieve the goal. God is on our side. People too are with us,’ he said.

The Supreme Court Thursday refused to stop the meeting while adjourning the final hearing on the petition. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice B.N. Agarwal turned down a plea by the Intellectual Forum, which had sought directions to the Andhra Pradesh government to withdraw its permission to the rally.

The NGO had argued that the meeting would lead to massive destruction of vegetation in the area and pose a threat to environment.

The Supreme Court in 1997 had banned any construction in the 176-acre area around the Avilala tank and had ordered preservation of the tank.

Chiranjeevi is all set to address a mammoth public meeting at the tank bed. More than a million people are expected to attend the meeting, where the superstar would announce the name and agenda of his political party.

Hundreds of vehicles and trains will ferry people from different parts of the state to the venue. The actor has also urged railways to run 10 special trains to enable people to reach Tirupati.

He also appealed to the state government Thursday to make security arrangements for the meeting. He said this would be in addition to the private security to be provided by his aides.

Meanwhile, a group of 300 Telugu NRIs launched ‘maha yatra’ from here to mobilize support for the public meeting. They will travel to some major towns and villages before reaching Tirupati. About 5,000 NRIs, mainly from the US, are likely to attend the public meeting.

Chiru party’s launching venue in legal trouble

Posted by chiru On August - 22 - 2008

The venue for the launching of film star chiru s proposed political party at a public meeting in Tirupati was locked in legal trouble with the admission of Public Interest Litigation (PIL), filed by an NGO seeking withdrawal of permission for it, citing environmental reasons.

A Tirupati-based NGO moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday opposing the holding of a public meeting at Avilala Tank in the temple town by him on August 26. Intellectual Forum, the NGO, moved a petition citing contempt of a directive given by the apex court in 2006 to the state to protect its water bodies. It contended that the public meeting should be prohibited as Avilala Tank is a water tank that enjoys protection under the Environment Act.
chiranjeevi eems to be worried with this hurdle before launching of his party and filed a caveat and the court will also hear his counsel before any order is passed on the application. Constitutional expert Fali. S. Nariman is likely to appear on behalf of chiranjeevi when the matter is expected to come up for `mentioning’ on Thursday.

It was in the same Avilala tank that the Congress plenary was held way back in 1992 by filling the tank bed. The Forum, two years later, filed a petition in the High Court, seeking a direction for restoration of the ancient water body and prohibition of any construction in future but it lost the case. It later approached the Supreme Court, which directed the government to maintain status quo on the tank.

Chinjeevi new party for ‘Santoshandhra Pradesh’

fter a prolonged wait and several rumours chiranjeevi nnounced before the media on August 17, about his joining politics with a view to serve the people more. He declared that he is dedicating his life for the service of people and to uplift the poor and downtrodden. He addressed the media at his party office at around 2.38 pm. He says, ‘Today is a memorable day in my life. As I seriously thought of joining politics, I met several people in the last three months, who include several intellectuals and politicians too. The one who inspired me to join politics is none other than Bharata Ratna, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. He advised me to jump into politics and cleanse them. I always used to emulate great leaders like Dr BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa and Jyothi Rao Phule. They are the driving force behind all my service activities. Besides Dr Kalam, two other incidents also forced me to take a decision to join politics. They are two suicide notes. Of them one was written by a Home Guard from Khammam pleading with me to join politics. Another letter was written by a couple, who were software engineers by profession. In that letter they wrote that they were unfortunate that they could not cast their vote to me as I have not yet joined politics. these two letters moved me a lot. Especially when someone is committing suicide, they think about themselves or about their family. But these two letters had something beyond. If I don’t join politics, it would become a historical blunder and a grave injustice to their last wishes. I pray the almighty, to keep their souls rest in peace. Above all, the late NT Rama Rao who paved the way for the artistes, saying that they had good following among the people and could serve them better. Let me pay rich tributes to the departed leader. Let me say one thing here that living for ourselves is just a living (Bratuku), but living for others is a life (Jeevitham).’
